As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinema and a deep appreciation for Bollywood, I must say this Independence Day weekend is shaping up to be quite the spectacle! With not one, not two, but three highly anticipated movies gracing our screens simultaneously, it’s a veritable feast for cinephiles like myself.
Over the extended Independence Day weekend, moviegoers can look forward to an exciting cinematic feast as three highly anticipated Bollywood films will be released simultaneously, potentially causing one of the biggest box office clashes in a while. Among these are Khel Khel Mein starring Akshay Kumar, Vedaa featuring John Abraham, and Stree 2 with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles.
During a conversation with News18 Showsha, Khiladi Kumar discussed his recent disagreement with his long-time friend and colleague John Abraham. Akshay, who has worked alongside John in movies like Garam Masala and Desi Boyz, said, “Indeed, we’ll collaborate again soon, I hope. We are great friends, close pals. Cinematic confrontations at the box office are inevitable. It’s not a significant issue; it’s just a clash, not a rupture.”
It’s not the first occasion that movies featuring Akshay and John have faced each other at the box office on Independence Day – an unusual event is happening for a third time this year. In 2018, Gold by Kumar and Satyameva Jayate by Abraham competed at the ticket booths, and later Mission Mangal collided with Batla House on August 15th. Interestingly, in 2019’s box office battle, they even put out a joint promotional campaign encouraging fans to watch both their films.
Akshay Kumar is set to re-enter the realm of comedy after a five-year break, during which his cinematic journey saw some tough times at the box office. His last decade of films have failed to impress at the box office, but fans are optimistic about his upcoming project as comedy is one of Akshay’s strong suits. Speaking about his return to comedy, Kumar expressed, “I haven’t tackled a comedy since Housefull 4. I do enjoy making comedies, but I also appreciate working on diverse film genres.”
Much like an undaunted machine, Akshay Kumar appears unfazed by his box office flops, eagerly anticipating a plethora of upcoming projects. At the age of 56, he is set to appear in Housefull 5, Welcome To The Jungle, Hera Pheri 3, Jolly LLB 3, and Awara Paagal Deewana 2, most of which are comedies. Furthermore, Akshay has lined up Sky Force, Shankara, and Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, among other projects.
Lately, the cast of Khel Khel Mein had a special discussion with TopMob, during which Akshay Kumar’s fellow actors praised his exceptional comedic skills. Vaani Kapoor shared that she finds comedy to be one of the toughest genres to master. “It’s either you have it naturally or you don’t. To make it seem effortless despite all the hard work, it requires a certain skill. Akshay excels at it; I can’t think of anyone who is funnier than he is,” the actress commented.
In addition to her reflections, actor Aditya Seal emphasized that after a tough workday, when one needs something amusing or comedy to watch, their stress vanishes swiftly – and no one does it better than Akshay Kumar. The movie “Khel Khel Mein” features Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, and Pragya Jaiswal in prominent roles, and it’s a reimagining of the 2016 Italian film “Perfect Strangers.”
In contrast, Vedaa features John Abraham, Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia in significant roles. This action thriller is rumored to be based on a true story, with Nikkhil Advani directing it. Out of the movies set to release on August 15, which one has caught your attention the most?
