Akshay Kumar surprised in every scene of Patiala House, says director Nikkhil Advani; Calls him 'massive hero'

As an ardent fan who’s watched Akshay Kumar’s journey unfold like a captivating Bollywood saga, I must say that Nikkhil Advani’s words about our beloved “Khiladi” in Patiala House are nothing short of music to my ears. The way he describes Akshay as a ‘massive hero’ who submits himself to a good director is a testament to the actor’s versatility and commitment to his craft.

In 2011, director Nikkhil Advani cast Akshay Kumar as the lead in his movie titled Patiala House. This film delved into the complex dynamics between a father and son. During an interview, when asked about the movie, the director praised Kumar, stating he was pleasantly surprised by his performance in every scene. Referring to him as a ‘massive hero’, Nikkhil Advani also acknowledged that Kumar is receptive to good direction.

In the sports drama movie “Patiala House,” directed by Nikkhil Advani, the late actor Rishi Kapoor and Akshay Kumar portrayed a father-son duo. When asked during an interview with Mirchi Plus about the particular scene where Akshay surprised him, the director responded that he was impressed in every single scene (Every scene surprised me).

In addition, Advani noted that the actor from Khel Khel Mein, Akshay Kumar, is a true megastar. However, the film’s narrative isn’t centered around him as the hero. Going into further detail about Akshay’s character, Nikkhil explained that he represents a man whose dreams and ambitions have been stifled and dictated by his father. Moreover, Rishi Ji’s character (Gurtej Singh Kahlon) is portrayed as a man who believes he can rule the family with an iron fist. However, he takes out his authority on his son.

During a recent conversation, the director of Kal Ho Naa Ho spoke about working with OMG 2’s actor in Patiala House, sharing that Akshay Kumar has a habit of expressing himself through gestures. Advani commented, “He is a very expressive and physical actor.” In addition, he mentioned that behind-the-scenes footage from the film shows him conversing with Akshay, even going so far as to hold his hands while sitting beneath the camera’s view.

In my experience as a lifestyle expert, I can tell you that when directing the entire film, I chose to hold Kumar’s hands throughout. My rationale was to portray his character as a loser initially who eventually rises. I wanted his shoulders to be slouched in the beginning, signifying defeat. However, he willingly surrendered himself to my guidance as a good director. Frankly, I am thankful for that experience. In my opinion, Patiala House is an extraordinary film.

In addition to being a sports drama, this unnamed movie features Dimple Kapadia, Anushka Sharma, and Diljit Dosanjh in significant parts.
