In recent times, Paresh Rawal has drawn attention following the virality of an interview where he addressed Akshay Kumar as a “colleague” instead of a friend. This remark led to whispers of a rift between the on-screen partners who have graced many successful movies like Hera Pheri, Welcome, and Oh My God. However, Paresh Rawal has put these rumors to rest in a straightforward yet composed manner.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Paresh expressed his annoyance over the situation being exaggerated. He stated, “My head is hurting! I merely said he’s a colleague. When you say ‘friend,’ it implies those who you meet 5-6 times a month and converse with numerous times weekly. Besides, neither Akshay nor I are social. So, there’s no chance of attending parties together. Therefore, I referred to him as a colleague. And this led to (misinterpretations). People ask, ‘What happened between you two?’ Oh brother, nothing has occurred.”
Rawal underlined that he and Akshay Kumar share no tension. He simply meant they don’t socialize often, so the term “friend” didn’t seem fitting. In his view, being friends involves regular interaction, which is not typical for them. Yet, this doesn’t signify any ill feelings.
When questioned about whether Akshay had watched the interview, Paresh Rawal implied that it was unlikely. He went on to characterize Akshay as a composed and laid-back individual who would make an excellent friend. Moreover, Paresh emphasized their long-standing professional relationship, mentioning they’ve collaborated in 15 to 20 films and continue to share a robust working bond.
He further explained that he’s become aware of the importance of being meticulous in interviews, as he doesn’t want his comments misinterpreted or misunderstood. He acknowledged the exhaustion that comes from constantly having to clarify his statements and intends to express himself more clearly in future conversations.
Previously, Paresh shared with The Lallantop that while theater and school foster deep friendships, the movie industry tends to be more business-oriented. He specifically pointed out Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, and Johnny Lever as genuine friends of his.
Currently, these actors are slated to collaborate once again in upcoming movies such as Bhooth Bangla, Welcome to the Jungle, and Hera Pheri 3.
