I can hardly contain my excitement as we’re merely days away from the much-anticipated debut of “Reacher” Season 3 on Prime Video! Previous seasons have seen our leading man, Alan Ritchson, effortlessly dish out some tough action. However, this year, it appears he’s encountered a formidable challenge in the form of Olivier Richters. Standing at an impressive 7-feet-2-inches tall and weighing 350 pounds, this bodybuilder is a fresh addition to the “Reacherverse,” taking on the role of Paulie, a bodyguard for Anthony Michael Hall’s character, Zachary Beck. For Alan Ritchson, it’s refreshing to have a formidable adversary in Season 3 because, as he puts it, such a challenge makes the character more relatable to the audience.
During an interview with Games Radar before the Season 3 premiere on Feb. 20, Ritchson found it enjoyable to act alongside his new adversary, despite the fact that the antagonist was over a foot taller and weighed around 100 pounds more than him. Without revealing specific names, he mentioned that unlike some actors in Hollywood who strive to portray an image of invincibility (such as Tom Cruise), he embraces the opportunity to exhibit a more vulnerable aspect of his character, particularly when it comes to physical strength.
In today’s world, we encounter numerous performers. I won’t mention specific individuals, but there are some who seem to require invincibility in their performances. However, isn’t it more engaging for viewers if these characters possess a sense of vulnerability? For instance, if Reacher appears excessively superhuman or indestructible, it wouldn’t be as enjoyable to watch. Instead, it’s intriguing to see him interact with someone who raises doubts about his survival.
The character Reacher is known for his resilience, and in this particular story, Ritchson compares his fight against Paulie to the challenges we all face in our daily lives. Just as many of us aren’t towering six-foot-two like Reacher, we can still relate to the hardships he endures and how he manages to overcome them even when they seem impossible. As Ritchson puts it, “Life is tough for most of us, and we crave a character who embodies that struggle, someone who gets knocked down by life but always finds a way to triumph in the end.
Olivier Richters Is No Stranger To Being the Largest Man in the Room
Known as “The Dutch Giant,” Richters is accustomed to standing out as the biggest figure in a scene, having previously starred in roles that portrayed him as a powerful force. Recently, he played Krom in the cinematic disappointment, Borderlands, and the year prior, he appeared in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as one of Voller’s (Mads Mikkelsen) henchmen, Hauke.
In a conversation with Empire, Richters expressed his amazement at the dedication put into portraying Reacher compared to Paulie for the upcoming season. He went on to say that their fight scenes are particularly enduring because they span such a long duration. The trailer above offers a sneak peek of how it all begins, and fans can catch the conclusion when Reacher Season 3 debuts on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 20, with the first three episodes releasing simultaneously, followed by weekly installments of the remaining five episodes.
