Alan Tudyk made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night while balancing on stilts to chat about his standout science fiction characters, such as Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle from Resident Alien, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Specifically, he discussed the excitement of acting alongside Edi Patterson, portraying Harry’s bird companion Heather. The character reappeared in the final episode of the current season – Season 4, Episode 3 – bringing word that she and Harry had become parents to a brood of hybrid offspring.
He shared with guest host Diego Luna, who he worked with on “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and the second season of “Andor”, that she is absolutely hysterical. In fact, they even shared a kiss during an unforgettable, albeit awkwardly improvised, dinner scene in Season 3, Tudyk revealed.
In acting class, when they perform trust falls, she’s someone I would confidently rely on to break my fall. I have complete faith in her. As he continued, Tudyk added, “We had a kissing scene where the script stated, ‘They kiss, it’s awkward,’ because she’s an alien bird character and I play another type of alien. In human form, she was munching on sunflower seeds and spitting them everywhere, including on actresses Sara Tomko [Asta] and Alice Wetterlund [D’arcy]. The set became a mess with sunflower seed residue flying off glasses and creating chaos. When asked about the kiss, Edi proposed, ‘What do you think for the kiss?’ To which I suggested, ‘Could you swallow the seeds and then spit them into my mouth during one of the takes?’ It was a serious comedy moment.

Alan Tudyk keeps playing robots
For four seasons now, Tudyk has been entertaining us on Resident Alien, but he’s also appeared as a robot not just once or twice, but three different times since 2004, starting with I, Robot. Roughly a decade later, he brought to life the witty, reprogrammed Imperial security droid K-2SO in Rogue One. Next month, his mechanical roles continue in James Gunn’s Superman reboot, where Tudyk will voice a talking machine in the Fortress of Solitude.
He quipped that some people add a human touch to their roles, while I more often deliver a mechanical, almost impersonal, performance – cold, precise, and devoid of warmth or emotion.
