Alex Israel’s ‘Noir’ Supports LA Artists Affected by Fires

Art dealer Gagosian unveils the launch of the ‘Noir’ collection, a fresh set of paintings crafted by the Los Angeles-born artist Alex Israel, which will be showcased at their Beverly Hills gallery starting from February 6.

Israel, who has a strong bond with Los Angeles, delves into the style of noir artistry using visuals that carry both a cinematic and emotional impact. His artwork, grounded in the city’s architectural landscape, presents a mix of nostalgia and modern viewpoints, portraying scenes from the 1940s to the ’80s with vibrant colors and distorted viewpoints.

Initially, the concept of Noir originated from Israel’s photographs and sketches. These were enriched using additional resources and jointly developed with animators, eventually transforming into stunning acrylic paintings under the skillful hands of Warner Bros.’ Scenic Art department. The series carries an ethereal aura, depicting settings such as an abandoned lingerie store window or a classic car dealership—spaces devoid of people yet brimming with a mysterious, surreal atmosphere.

As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to support my fellow artists in Los Angeles who have been affected by the devastating wildfires. By attending this exhibition, not only will you enjoy some fantastic artworks, but you’ll also be contributing to the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund. Initially scheduled for January, we had to postpone the event due to the fires, but we’re thrilled to finally bring it to you now. Let’s come together and make a difference through our shared love for art!
