Ali Wong Tackles Post-Divorce Life in New Netflix Special

As a die-hard comedy enthusiast, I must say that Ali Wong‘s journey from stand-up to global superstar is nothing short of inspiring! Her knack for weaving personal experiences into hilarious anecdotes has not only entertained us but also given us a peek into her incredible life.

Ali Wong’s post-divorce life is getting the Netflix treatment.

The comedy series is scheduled to debut “Single Lady” worldwide on October 8. This stand-up performance will also delve into her journey seeking love after the end of her marriage, which is her fourth hour-long special for Netflix. Her earlier specials, such as “Ali Wong: Don Wong,” “Ali Wong: Baby Cobra,” and “Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife,” similarly explored personal topics like marriage, pregnancy, or motherhood.

I was thrilled to have filmed and directed my latest stand-up special at The Wiltern in Los Angeles during this year’s Netflix Is a Joke Fest. As an executive producer, I had the honor of working alongside industry veteran John Irwin on this project. In today’s competitive market for comedy specials, it’s exciting to know that platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu are willing to invest substantial amounts, even up to eight-figure checks, to secure top comedians.

Over the past few years, Wong’s popularity has significantly expanded in various aspects, notably as a highly successful comedian and actress. Her diverse portfolio encompasses acclaimed projects such as the Emmy-winning series “Beef” on Netflix and the streaming film “Always Be My Maybe”. Furthermore, she has contributed her voice to shows like “Ask the StoryBots”, “Ada Twist, Scientist” and “Big Mouth”. Notably, a large portion of her work can be found on Netflix, contributing significantly to her rise as a global comedian.

Speaking from a fan’s perspective, it’s fascinating to follow the journey of Amy Poehler’s ex-husband, Justin Hakuta, who parted ways with her in spring 2022 after eight years of marriage. Despite their separation, they’ve managed to stay connected, as Amy shared with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that Justin and their children were planning to accompany her on tour while she was developing material about navigating single life. Lately, there have been whispers that Amy might be romantically involved with comedian Bill Hader.
