Alien vs. Predator Surprise Twist Movie Could Be Epic According to Romulus Director

Last summer, “Alien: Romulus” had us jumping out of our seats in fear. But fear not, as the 2025 movie lineup is set to continue this trend with even more chilling encounters. This is particularly exciting for fans who lean towards the “Predator” film series, as they can look forward to new action and thrills with “Badlands”, as well as an upcoming movie on Hulu.

Speculating about the possibility of a highly-anticipated crossover movie, we ponder whether two iconic sci-fi creature franchises – let’s call them ‘Alien’ and another unnamed franchise – will eventually merge in a way that is both authentic and well-received by fans. Interestingly, director Fede Álvarez, who worked on ‘Romulus’, hinted he would be willing to take on the challenge if any production companies decide to finance such a project.

Indeed, he’s already formulated a plan for that particular project, and it calls for a strong, vivid expression. In conversation with Collider, Álvarez was bursting with excitement and divulged his approach in two stages, initiating with:

As a cinephile, if given the chance, I’d craft an Alien vs. Predator (AVP) film that leaves audiences utterly astonished. In this digital era where secrets are harder to safeguard, the most effective AVP would be one that maintains an enigmatic veil until the climax.

At first glance, it might appear as a straightforward Predator movie. However, when these mysterious beings arrive at an unexpected location, viewers will be in for a shock. Instead of the anticipated prey, they’ll encounter Xenomorphs – and let me tell you, that revelation would send chills down one’s spine!

The audience’s reaction? A resounding “Fuck yeah!” as sheer excitement takes over. It would be nothing short of chaotic yet exhilarating!

It seems to me that even with two upcoming Predator movies this year, I can’t help but hope this crossover idea materializes earlier rather than later. After all, we do know about a secret Predator film that was previously shot as an exclusive for Hulu subscribers, slated for release before Badlands makes it to theaters. So, it’s not entirely unheard of.

Is it possible that Fede Álvarez and Dan Trachtenberg have discussed plans to potentially make an Alien vs. Predator film? While this is speculation, it’s a valid question to consider. However, why should the Predator franchise always bear the main responsibility?

Exploring further ideas about integrating 20th Century Studios’ franchise properties as a lead-up for this possible crossover, the co-writer and director of “Alien: Romulus” flipped the scenario over and pondered this angle instead.

If you were watching an Alien film and all of a sudden a strange creature appeared with that distinctive sound and cloak, and you exclaimed, ‘Goodness gracious, is that a Predator?’ Only to find out later that it indeed was. I think that’s the right approach, as if you include it in the title, it becomes more like, ‘Spoiler alert: It’s a Predator.’

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been mulling over these two storylines and it got me thinking about the twist ending in ‘Split’. M. Night Shyamalan cleverly tied this seemingly independent film into the middle act of the ‘Eastrail 177 Trilogy’. By weaving the legacy of ‘Unbreakable’ into the climax that was ‘Glass’, it came as a surprise to all, only revealing itself as events unfolded on the big screen.

Contemplating a surprising turn of events where one of these renowned sci-fi narratives introduces the other as a new element is something truly exciting and worthy of enthusiasm. I’d be eager to witness such an unexpected crossover, simply to share in the excitement of the audience discovering that this epic clash was indeed happening.

It seems reasonable to anticipate that, given Fede Álvarez’s description, the twist might occur quite early in the movie. However, at this stage, it’s all conjecture. What we do know is that the director of the Evil Dead reboot, who is also handling Alien: Romulus’ sequel as his next project, may soon reveal more details about this chilling and captivating universe.

I’ll definitely keep a close eye on the two new Predator films coming out later this year, as it might provide some hints to rewatch Romulus, since there may be subtle clues hidden within its scenes of chaos and devastation.
