As a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of Alison Brie, I must say that her latest role as Macy’s holiday gift guide feels like a perfect fit! Growing up in Los Angeles, I fondly remember my own trips to Macy’s, just like Brie did in Pasadena. The department store was always a one-stop shop for all my high school shopping needs, from Calvin Klein’s CK One to the latest video game console.

Alison Brie has a festive new role as a walking, talking holiday gift guide for Macy’s.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Brie Larson, who refers to herself as a last-minute shopper, shares that being chosen as the star of the department store’s 2024 holiday ad campaign seemed very natural. “I bought some of my first makeup from their beauty section,” she explains. “I enjoy visiting the store because it’s convenient; it offers everything I need in one place. It saves me time, as I don’t have to run around Los Angeles to find something for everyone.

The actress, who was raised in Los Angeles and is currently featured in Apple TV’s Apples Never Fall, reminisces about shopping at the historic Macy’s store on Lake Avenue in Pasadena during her high school years. Specifically, she recalls purchasing Calvin Klein’s CK One with her boyfriend using money that she had earned herself.

One of Brie’s main duties at Macy’s? “I’m taking my entire family to New York to attend the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person,” says Brie. “I adore the parade, it’s legendary. I go every year mainly because I’m a huge fan of Peanuts, so I never miss the Snoopy balloon.

Embodying an expert gift-giver for the retailer’s campaign was easier said than done, says Brie. “I start thinking of holiday shopping now, then procrastinate,” she jokes. “I think it’s hard to be creative because my parents ask for the same thing every year and I’m always buying them that sweater and that button-down shirt and they can’t think of anything else, so it’s nice to have something like a gift guide [for new ideas].”

She goes on to express, “Another aspect that’s fascinating about the campaign is considering what the presents we choose for individuals reveal about them. Gifts indeed serve as expressions of affection, they speak volumes about our understanding of [our loved ones]. The pleasure derived from giving thoughtful gifts to people – there’s nothing quite like hitting the mark and presenting someone with a gift they truly cherish.

Brie mentions that when it comes to gifting, she often chooses Hugo Boss cologne for her father and sparkling jewelry for her mother. Other items that generally receive positive feedback are silk sleep masks, pillowcases, or some type of Ugg slippers, as there’s always a new style available!

Macy’s holiday catalog offers gifts catering to various types of recipients and financial situations, and it also showcases chic items for winter events. This promotion additionally highlights how the gift guide can assist individuals in selecting presents for themselves. The holiday season is hectic; you’re hosting parties, and you’re attending them too. I appreciate that this campaign takes every aspect into consideration.

Recently, I’ve been considering gift ideas for my mom that promote collagen production or high-quality face masks, as it’s enjoyable to purchase items that others might not buy on their own. I’m particularly fond of luxury skincare tools such as microcurrent and nanocurrent devices. The ZIIP is a device I appreciate, but there are other options available, like NuFace. Also, the Jillian Dempsey vibrating gold bar is quite popular due to its focus on lymphatic drainage.

In the realm of my middle-school years, one gift that stood out like a neon beacon was a vintage lava lamp. It seemed as if the ’90s were making an attempt to recapture the groovy vibes of the ’70s with this rad addition to my room.

41-year-old actress from “Glow” will portray the wicked witch Evil-Lyn opposite Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe,” scheduled to hit theaters globally on June 5, 2026. Brie expressed her excitement about playing a villain, stating, “Actors often say that villains are the most enjoyable characters, and I believe they’re right. While I’ve played morally complex individuals, I haven’t taken on a truly wicked, tantalizingly evil villain before. This role seems to be an answer to my wishes for playing a villain in a superhero movie.

She adds, “Upon reading the script, I found it to be quite ingenious. It offers an exceptional perspective on He-Man, and Nick Galitzine demonstrates remarkable talent. These factors are why I agreed to be involved.

Reflecting on the 1980s animated show, “I distinctly recall watching it, and more recently, I’ve resumed viewing it. To my surprise, it’s funnier than I had remembered. The dynamic between Evil-Lyn and Skeletor is particularly intriguing, a relationship she’s eager to delve into on screen.

On November 1st, Macy’s will reveal the list of performers for their annual Thanksgiving Parade. The event filled with floats will take place on November 28th in New York City and will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. I don’t have any inside information, but I’m confident that Macy’s will put on a fantastic show.

Every year, she requests soft, plushy socks that she can’t seem to gather enough of, as she puts it.
