All Six Seasons of ‘Grimm’ Are Now Streaming on Peacock

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled that NBC’s underestimated gem, Grimm, has found its way onto streaming platforms. This dark fantasy series from the past decade, often overlooked but deserving of more recognition, showcases a charismatic cast that would later become familiar faces in the industry. The story follows a relatable supernatural hunter who engages in battles against timeless fantasy creatures, breathing new life into classic tales.

A forgotten treasure from the 2010s, Grimm proved that modernizing fairy and folk tales could work effectively within a procedural format. Although it’s not without its flaws, particularly in the later seasons, there is more than enough captivating content to keep lovers of fantasy engaged from beginning to end.

Now, all six seasons of the series ‘Grimm’ can be streamed on Peacock. In this show, David Giuntoli portrays Nick Burkhardt, a detective with a unique family history: he is one of the “Grimms,” individuals gifted with the extraordinary ability to perceive mythical creatures known as the Wesen. Working alongside his partner, Detective Hank (played by Russell Hornsby), they tackle weekly mysteries involving these supernatural beings and cross paths with those who can transform into tale-inspired creatures. Bitsie Tulloch from ‘Superman & Lois’ plays Nick’s love interest, Juliette Silverton, while Silas Weir Mitchell recurs as the werewolf-like Wesen named Monroe. Despite some outdated CGI and cheesy costumes, ‘Grimm’s dedication to a contemporary fairy-tale premise and endearing characters make it an engaging watch.

In a simplified version, Portland detective Nick Burkhardt, who belongs to a lineage of ancient warriors called Grimms, safeguards his city from mysterious beings referred to as Wesen. These creatures are a blend of human and animal traits. Alongside his partner Hank, police colleague Sergeant Wu, friends Monroe and Rosalee, Nick battles both internal and external adversaries, including his superior officer, Sean Renard.

‘Grimm’ Was Supposed to Get a Spin-Off…What Happened?

Back in 2018, not long after the final season of Grimm ended in 2017, NBC revealed plans for a TV spinoff, taking place in the same universe. This new series was intended to introduce a fresh female lead alongside beloved characters from the past, maintaining the mythological lore for a new audience. However, after several years, it was discovered that NBC had halted development of the project by 2021. Melissa Glenn (known for Citadel and Beauty and the Beast) was set to be the executive producer, with Grimm’s co-creators remaining involved as consultants on the property.

It’s not surprising that there hasn’t been a follow-up to Grimm, given its history. Although it had a dedicated fanbase for six seasons, it faced challenges with ratings and audience retention due to its Friday night time slot. Furthermore, the cast members moved on to prominent roles in other projects. Bitsie Tulloch, for instance, was cast as Lois Lane in CW’s Arrowverse and starred in Superman & Lois, a highly-acclaimed DC superhero series that recently concluded after four seasons. The connection with DC doesn’t end there, as David Giuntoli has voiced Batman in several animated movies, including Batman: Soul of the Dragon. Russell Hornsby, on the other hand, starred as Don King in the limited series Mike and appeared in Creed II and the Academy Award-winning film Fences.
