As a gamer who’s seen my fair share of surreal and ironic artworks, I must say that Joan Cornellà’s “Yogawork” is right up my alley. The melting salaryman in lotus pose, multitasking with a laptop, cellphone, and pen, while his hair is on fire, is a perfect blend of humor and absurdity that resonates with me.
Joan Cornellà has teamed up with AllRightsReserved again for a fresh vinyl sculpture called “Yogawork.” As the name suggests, the new creation features the recurring character dressed in blue suit, this time sitting cross-legged, seemingly performing the lotus pose – a yoga posture usually used for meditation. However, there’s an ironic twist as the figure appears to be in a state of turmoil instead.
Instead of the typical two arms, there are three sets of arms extending from his body, resembling a streamlined Bodhisattva figure. One set of arms is positioned in a Gyan Mudra pose to finalize the yoga posture. The remaining hands are depicted giving a thumbs-up gesture, holding a laptop, a smartphone, and a pen respectively.
As described by AllRightsReserved, this sculpture is portrayed as a “versatile individual capable of managing everything, even while in a yoga pose.” The texture of the sculpture has been carefully designed to give the impression of melting. This effect appears to originate from the character’s head, where his hair seems to be on fire. In its usual state, the hair is black, but it transforms into a fiery color when exposed to heat.
Starting October 3 at 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (or 12 p.m. Hong Kong Time), the unique “Yogawork” vinyl sculpture by Joan Cornellà will make its debut exclusively on DDTStore, in a limited edition series.
