- Alterworlds, an upcoming low-poly puzzler, has unveiled a new 3 minute demo
- It shows off a number of mechanics in this story of searching for your lost love across the galaxy
- Leaping from planet to planet, blasting obstacles and dragging and dropping artefacts is just the start
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for indie titles that offer unique gameplay experiences, I must say I am thoroughly intrigued by Alterworlds. The low-poly aesthetic, reminiscent of Moebius’ artistry, promises a visually refreshing journey that harks back to the retro charm while maintaining contemporary appeal.
Moving into the weekend, it feels like it’s high time to tie up some loose ends, and today I want to bring your attention to a project I’m particularly excited about, which I’ve been saving for the weekend spotlight. The game is called Alterworld, an intriguing low-poly indie puzzler that embarks you on a cosmic journey in search of a lost love.
It seems somewhat reminiscent, doesn’t it? However, what truly sets Alterworlds apart for me is not the storyline, but its gameplay and style. Employing the mentioned low-poly, cel-shaded design, you can observe how they’ve been influenced by artists like Moebius to create a visually appealing, yet nostalgically retro palette that remains pleasing to the eye.
From a gameplay standpoint, the top-down view conceals the fact that this is a puzzle game with numerous activities. This enables you to jump, fire weapons, and move objects as you traverse various unique planets, including barren moons and lush lands teeming with dinosaurs.
Alternatively
I think the only complaint I might have about Alterworlds would be the somewhat clunky narration for the tutorial, but aside from that this is a puzzle game that I think stands out quite a bit. I’m definitely interested to see what Idealplay does with it, and especially how it’ll play when it does hit mobile.
However, you might wonder if we’re jumping ahead a bit too soon, given that it’s just a 3-minute demon? True, it is brief, but as you may have observed, we are always eager to explore the latest developments.
If you’re not convinced, take a look at our show “Ahead of the Game,” particularly our latest episode about “Your House.” This new series highlights games that may not have been formally released yet but can still be played in some form. Keep updated on the most popular upcoming releases and discover what might soon dominate the charts!
