As a devoted Prime Video enthusiast with a penchant for binge-watching, I must say that Amazon’s new X-Ray Recaps have me absolutely smitten! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve found myself in a pickle, trying to remember where I left off in my favorite series or even worse, having to rewind through entire episodes just to catch up. This innovative feature is like a lifeline for folks like me who juggle multiple shows at once!
Amazon is utilizing artificial intelligence to assist Prime Video viewers in keeping up-to-date with their favorite shows.
The broadcaster has incorporated AI-made summaries for certain original programs, marketing it as a tool for viewers to catch up with a series they may have missed due to deliberate avoidance or extended breaks between episodes – or simply to jog their memory. These recaps are known as X-Ray Recaps and complement the existing X-Ray feature on Prime Video, which displays actor names during playback when a movie or show is momentarily paused, and offers information about the production and soundtrack of the title.
Adam Gray, vp product at Prime Video, stated that their teams tirelessly improve the viewing experience by fine-tuning products and technology. By introducing X-Ray Recaps, they aim to solve a frequent issue viewers encounter while streaming content – forgetting where they stopped watching. With this feature, which is aware of the context, Prime Video will offer summaries of significant scenes and key plot points. This allows customers to easily resume their viewing or rekindle their passion for a series by recalling why it initially captivated them.
Amazon Prime Video points out that recaps can help viewers avoid the hassle of having to rewind or search for summaries, which might interrupt their streaming experience and potentially expose them to spoilers or repeated viewing of content they’ve already watched.
The X-Ray Recaps are fueled by Amazon Bedrock, an Amazon Web Services feature specializing in creating and expanding generative AI applications. According to the company, this service examines video footage, dialogue, and subtitles to produce comprehensive summaries (without spoilers, as Amazon emphasizes) of crucial plot points and occurrences. Users have the option to browse through episode synopses, a “season in review” feature, and recaps of past seasons of a series.
At the moment, summaries can be found for Amazon MGM Studios’ original shows such as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Upload, The Boys, and The Wheel of Time.
