Amazon Claims Big Worldwide Audience for ‘Beast Games’

It appears that the extensive audience of Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson on YouTube has also found its way onto Amazon‘s Prime Video platform.

Amazon’s streaming platform reports that approximately 50 million people worldwide have tuned in to watch “Beast Games”, a competition series jointly developed and presented by Donaldson, during its initial 25-day broadcast (covering half of a 10-episode season). Prime Video claims the show ranks as their second most successful new series launch of 2024, trailing behind “Fallout” which drew in 65 million viewers within its first 16 days, according to the streaming service.

Similar to how Amazon discloses data for its other series, they do not specify if the 50 million refers to an average viewership (akin to Nielsen ratings for conventional TV) or the total number of viewers who watched even a few minutes of ‘Beast Games’. Approximately half of these views were recorded outside the U.S., according to Amazon’s report.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the viewership for Beast Games has really taken off, surpassing the numbers of Cross! Prime Video reported that Cross managed to grab 40 million viewers in its first 20 days globally, but it didn’t quite hit the 10 million mark by day 25. In comparison, Beast Games has been a real crowd-pleaser.

Donaldson, often recognized as one of the world’s top YouTube creators, boasts an impressive follower base of approximately 344 million on his MrBeast channel. This channel is renowned for its extravagant stunts and competitions, a theme that extends to Beast Games, where a grand total of 1,000 contestants vie for a staggering $5 million prize.

The show is additionally involved in a potential mass legal action initiated by five participants, who allege that they were denied access to necessary healthcare, adequate nutrition and rest, and experienced a pervasive atmosphere of disrespect towards women (misogyny) and bias (sexism) throughout the filming process.

Donaldson teamed up with Sean Klitzner, Tyler Conklin, and Mack Hopkins to establish the gaming company known as Beast Games. In addition to Donaldson, Klitzner, and Conklin, Michael Cruz, Matt Apps, Charles Wachter, Keith Geller, Joe Coleman, and Rachel Skidmore are also serving as executive producers for this venture.
