Amazon Prime Just Added A New Movie With A Ridiculous Title -- But It's 90% on Rotten Tomatoes

As a gamer with a penchant for movies and a soft spot for quirky titles, I must confess that stumbling upon “My Old Ass” streaming on Amazon Prime was like striking gold in a sea of digital entertainment. With a title that’s as absurd as it is memorable, I was initially skeptical about the movie’s merit. However, after watching it, I can confidently say it’s one of the hidden gems of 2024.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you’re well aware that there’s no shortage of movie choices when perusing their vast library. Surprisingly, this week, they added one of the best and somewhat overlooked films from 2024 – yes, it has a rather unusual title.

A Movie Called My Old Ass Is Now Streaming On Amazon Prime

The film, titled “My Ancient Seat“, is undoubtedly among my top picks for this year, and I’m completely serious about that.

This story revolves around Elliott, a newcomer played by Maisy Stella, a teenager residing in Muskoka, Canada. In an unconventional choice for her 18th birthday, she opts to explore the effects of psychedelic mushrooms amidst the scenic landscapes of this vacation spot with some friends. Consuming these magical fungi leads Elliott on a journey she did not anticipate. Surprisingly, her 39-year-old self (portrayed by Aubrey Plaza) appears, who is significantly different from what Elliott imagined her older and wiser self to be.

In addition to studying the latest version of Elliott, who appears to be having a tough time, seeks advice. Older Elliott advises her sternly to avoid a guy named Chad at any expense. Not long after her journey, she encounters this very Chad. It seems like a reversed version of “Back To The Future” for Generation Z.

Why The Aubrey Plaza Film Is Low-Key One Of The Best Movies Of 2024

The film titled “My Old Self” has garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers since its release, following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and subsequent theater screenings in September.

The film is currently receiving rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes following 176 assessments, garnering a score of 90%. Critics have praised it for being heartwarming, side-splittingly funny, endearing, and one of the best coming-of-age tales in years. Similarly, viewers on the site’s audience review section are expressing almost identical enthusiasm with a 89% rating as well.

As a gamer putting down my controller for a moment, let me tell you, I wholeheartedly vouch for the exceptional quality of that movie. Back in September, it had me hooked from start to finish, and it’s been lingering in my thoughts ever since. It’s one of those unique films that manages to be both sidesplittingly funny and heart-wrenchingly emotional. To put it simply, you’ll likely walk out feeling more optimistic about life than when you walked in.

If you’re still unsure about this project, let me add that it was brought to life by none other than Margot Robbie, who carried on the delightful legacy of a classic Barbie production. It boasts a side-splitting Justin Bieber homage and an unanticipated scene where a character comes out, which adds a surprising twist.

Maisy Stella may be new to films, but her remarkable debut in this movie leaves me eagerly anticipating her future acting endeavors. By the way, Aubrey Plaza gives an outstanding performance that ranks among her best work. Therefore, despite its humorous title, this film deserves recognition and your valuable time.

My Old Ass is definitely joining the best movies on Amazon Prime Video. Check it out yourself!
