Amazon’s ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Spinoff Adds John Carroll Lynch

As a fan who’s been following John Carroll Lynch‘s career since his days on “Fargo,” I couldn’t be more thrilled to see him join Amazon’s expanding Bosch universe! With his knack for portraying complex characters and his exceptional talent, I have no doubt that he will breathe life into the role of Thomas Laffont.

Amazon is adding another actor to its expanding Bosch universe.

John Carroll Lynch is set to star in the third installment of the franchise focusing on LAPD detective Renée Ballard, portrayed by Maggie Q. This as-yet-unnamed series, available on Amazon Prime Video, follows Ballard as she leads the underfunded, volunteer-based cold case division within the department, which is overwhelmed with cases. The character has featured in numerous novels by Michael Connelly, who writes the Bosch books.

Actress Lynch, known for her roles in ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Big Sky’, will portray Thomas Laffont – a retired partner of Ballard’s who re-emerges to assist her in managing the department. He is a compassionate, experienced detective with exceptional interrogation skills.

In the season finale of “Bosch: Legacy,” scheduled for later this year, we’ll see the introduction of a new spinoff series. This other show, like both “Bosch” and “Bosch: Legacy,” is set in the same universe. The character Ballard, known for her compassionate and tenacious nature, will be at the center of this new series. As she delves into old cases that seem to be stuck in time, she stumbles upon a larger conspiracy. To help her navigate the perils that put both her team and her life at risk, she’ll seek the aid of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver.

The upcoming installment of the series, focusing on Detective Jerry Edgar played by Jamie Hector, is still being worked on and developed further.

Jet Wilkinson, known as The Old Man in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, will co-produce the Ballard series alongside Connelly, Trish Hofmann, Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, Henrik Bastin, and Melissa Aouate of Fabel Entertainment. Additionally, Jasmine Russ, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Mark Douglas, Trey Batchelor, and Theresa Snider from Hieronymus Pictures will be involved in the production process as well.

More recently, Lynch has been featured in shows such as HBO’s White House Plumbers and Starz’s Gaslit, both centered around Watergate. Additionally, he appeared in Babes and The Trial of the Chicago 7, for which he received a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award as part of the ensemble. His representation is handled by Suskin/Karshan Management and Schreck Rose.
