Amy B. Harris, the producer behind Amazon’s Prime Video series “The Wilds”, is now in charge of adapting their upcoming series “Every Summer After“, which will be renamed “Every Year After”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris replaces Leila Gerstein as showrunner for “Every Year After”. Gerstein has left the project due to creative differences, a source revealed.
Reps for Gerstein did not immediately respond to THR’s request for comment.
Year after year, the narrative unfolds from the critically acclaimed novel “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune, published by the New York Times. The story spans six years and a significant seven-day period in the picturesque, authentic town of Barry’s Bay, which exists in reality.
The story is filled with romantic and sentimental moments, reminiscent of first loves, and it’s about the individuals and decisions that leave lasting impacts on us. Barry’s Bay, a tranquil town in rural Ontario, was where the author, Fortune, spent most of her childhood years.
In her multi-faceted agreement, Harris is responsible for creating, overseeing, and occasionally leading (serving as a showrunner) new adaptations spanning various genres. Alongside The Wilds, she has also been involved in the development and executive production of The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to Sex and the City, and contributed to writing and producing the original Sex and the City series. Her portfolio further expands to include credits for The Comeback, Gossip Girl, and Designated Survivor.
In the upcoming adaptation of her own novel, Fortune will serve as executive producer alongside Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, and John Stephens; Gerstein is no longer included in this role. Fortune has penned several books set around summer and lakes, including “One Golden Summer,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” “Meet Me at the Lake,” and “Every Summer After.” Although these novels don’t share any interconnected storylines, Fortune’s fifth book could potentially change that. If a hypothetical second season of “Every Summer After” is drawn from her upcoming (and as-yet unnamed) novel, perhaps it would be fittingly titled “Every Year After.
This book, titled “Every Summer After,” has surpassed the milestone of selling over a million copies and is tremendously popular among the BookTok community. It held the top spot on The New York Times Bestsellers list for an impressive 14 consecutive weeks.
Prior to her career as a novelist, Fortune worked as a journalist and an editor for several Canadian publications including The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, Toronto Life, and Refinery29 Canada. She graduated with a degree in Journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University.
