AMC’s Immortal Universe Expands: Four or Five New Shows on the Horizon!

In 2022, when “Interview with the Vampire” made its debut on AMC, few anticipated its remarkable success. Not even producer Mark Johnson, who initially believed the series would be popular enough for a second season, but an entire Anne Rice universe? That was never in his plans. Once it thrived, “Mayfair Witches” followed the next year, and “The Talamasca” is scheduled to air this fall. However, that’s not all, as Johnson recently disclosed that the Immortal Universe could potentially expand to four or five shows.

During a conversation regarding Deadline’s overall agreement with AMC, the topic of Johnsons multiple Anne Rice projects came up. With three projects already confirmed, Johnson was questioned about potential additions to the lineup. “We have a few other projects at various stages of development,” he replied, implying that there might be more to come.

AMC is proceeding thoughtfully with us, moving cautiously. They’re not rushing to develop all the Anne Rice material at once. It takes effort to manage multiple projects, so they focus on one or two at a time. Currently, their aim is to maintain the success of both ‘Interview’ and ‘Mayfair Witches’, and then introduce ‘Talamasca’, a show that promises to be quite engaging.

Speaking as a thrilled fan, Johnson shared his vision of potentially four to five immersive tales set within the Immortal Universe. Regrettably, no details have been disclosed about other projects brewing in the pipeline, but he emphasized his intention to keep the expansion measured and controlled, avoiding an overly rapid escalation.

Eventually, it gets a bit amusing, but let me clarify that my team is exceptionally talented, albeit small. We manage quite well with our current trio, and if necessary, we can easily accommodate an additional member. As for the idea of a fifth, I won’t deny there might be a touch of madness involved.

What Is ‘The Talamasca’ About?

This fall, AMC’s new series, The Talamasca, isn’t based on a single novel by Rice, but instead combines elements from all her works featuring this secret order. Fans of the Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches will recognize this order, as it plays a role in both series. It remains to be seen which direction the show will go as the group frequently monitors the supernatural entities populating our world. Johnson hints at possible crossovers, suggesting that there are links to other series.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be watching “The Talamasca” starring Nicholas Denton portraying Guy Anatole, William Fichtner as Jasper, Elizabeth McGovern as Helen, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Olive. Although the precise storyline is still a secret, filming commenced last October, and the first season consisting of six episodes is currently in post-production. AMC has yet to announce an official release date, but rest assured, it’s slated for later this year. So, fellow cinephiles, let’s eagerly wait for its premiere!

In anticipation for future updates, you can now stream the initial two seasons of both “Interview with the Vampire” and “Mayfair Witches” on AMC+.
