‘American Idol’ Season 23 Winner Crowned

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Sunday night season finale of American Idol

American Idol has a new winner.

As I, Jamal Roberts, stood on stage during the Season 23 finale of the ABC singing competition, I couldn’t help but feel the thunderous applause from the audience and the overwhelming support of millions of fans. Our host, Ryan Seacrest, announced that a record-breaking 26 million votes had been cast – more than double what we saw during last year’s finale! It was an unforgettable moment, one I’ll cherish forever as I stood victorious on that stage.

Since Ruben Studdard’s victory as champion of American Idol’s second season in 2003, Roberts is now the first Black male contestant to claim the singing competition title.

John Foster was the runner-up, with Breanna Nix coming in third.

The final act showcased numerous artists such as Jessica Simpson, Good Charlotte, Salt-n-Pepa, Kirk Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, Patti LaBelle, Goo Goo Dolls, among others.

Furthermore, during the live telecast, the final three contestants collaborated on duets. Specifically, Roberts teamed up with Jelly Roll, Foster joined forces with judge Luke Bryan, and Nix harmonized with Brandon Lake.

Besides Bryan, the judging panel for the show consists of Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood, who is new to this role but previously won Season 4. This season, Katy Perry was replaced by Carrie Underwood on the judge’s panel.
