America's Got Talent Crowned Season 19 Champion After One Last Incredible Performance, But One Thing Needs To Change For Next Season

As a long-time fan of America’s Got Talent, I must say that this season has been nothing short of extraordinary! The final showdown was as nail-biting as ever, and after four months of non-stop entertainment, it all boiled down to elementary school janitor-turned-singer Richard Goodall claiming the grand prize. It was heartwarming to see him win, especially since he just got married, and his collaboration with Neal Schon and Journey was nothing short of breathtaking!

The 19th season of “America’s Got Talent” has concluded, with the competition more intense than ever leading up to the Season Finale in the 2024 TV lineup. Following four months filled with auditions, applause, and an abundance of golden buzzers, host Terry Crews declared the winner of the $1 million top prize: former elementary school janitor-turned-singer Richard Goodall! There were many reasons to rejoice, but I couldn’t help feeling that something was not quite as it should have been.

I’m absolutely thrilled with the outcome, even though singers aren’t typically my preferred contestants on America’s Got Talent. The Top 5, consisting of comedian Learnmore Jonasi, the dance duo Roni Sagi & Rhythm, drone light show team Sky Elements, quick change magician Solange Kardinaly, and Richard Goodall, were all impressive competitors. However, among them, Richard Goodall was undoubtedly my favorite from Season 19, given his compelling story and singing abilities.

As a gamer, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of joy doubled when my friend, who had recently tied the knot, emerged victorious. The icing on the cake was collaborating with Neal Schon and fellow members of Journey for an epic rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin'” during the finale – simply unforgettable!

To be honest, I wasn’t hoping for Richard Goodall to win following the Season 19 finale. What I found disappointing this time around isn’t something new that America’s Got Talent did this season. Instead, it struck me more forcefully this year that the finale seemed to fill over an hour and a half with filler content before revealing the winner, and even then, they only showed snippets of his victory moments at the very end. It’s been done before, but Goodall’s emotional outburst left me wanting to hear more from him after he had a chance to collect himself.

Before getting too irritated, I decided it was necessary to verify the facts first. So, I checked the video, and indeed, Terry Crews had a pause of approximately 40 seconds before announcing the winner, either Jane Goodall or Roni Sagi & Rhythm. Afterward, golden confetti showered, Heidi Klum rushed up on stage to embrace him… followed by another 40 seconds as Crews handed the microphone to Klum and concluded the episode. Feel free to verify it yourself.

As a devoted fan, I want to make it clear that I’m not casting blame on Terry Crews or Heidi Klum for Richard Goodall not receiving much screen time during his America’s Got Talent victory. However, the way the finale unfolded left me yearning for a different outcome, particularly seeing Goodall’s expression as the host was wrapping up. It leaves one pondering: could America’s Got Talent perhaps condense its finale by 1 hour and 57 minutes to make the wait for the winner announcement less time-consuming?

To be frank, an extra minute or two, or even those 40 seconds of wait before Terry Crews declared the winner during the finale of America’s Got Talent, wouldn’t go amiss. And yes, the show was entertaining for that full hour and a half. However, I can’t help but feel that future seasons could benefit from a slight adjustment to the finale format, allowing more time for the winner before the closing credits to give them more spotlight. It’s just a small tweak, but it could make all the difference.

Currently, it seems like we’ll need to be patient as AGT hasn’t returned yet. As of now, no spinoff or new season has been announced for winter or midseason, so we might not catch the judges in action until Season 20 in the spring.
