Amid Rumors About A New Superhero Gig, Josh Brolin Just Shared DCU Fan Art Of Himself As An Iconic Character

Currently, Josh Brolin boasts three credits in superhero films. He initially portrayed Jonah Hex for DC in the 2010 film of the same name, followed by his role as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Cable in Deadpool 2. There are whispers that Brolin may be taking on a fourth project within this genre, possibly appearing in an upcoming superhero movie or TV series. Amidst these rumors, the actor recently posted some DCU fan art depicting himself as a renowned character.

You may recall that in the latter half of 2024, Brolin was said to be in talks to play Hal Jordan in Lanterns, the Green Lantern-focused TV show set in the DC Universe franchise. While that didn’t work out and Kyle Chandler will play the character instead, allegedly Brolin is in talks for another major role in this new shared continuity. As such, artist BossLogic decided to share his take on Instagram of what Brolin would look like as Darkseid, one of DC Comics’ greatest villains. The image found its way in front of the Dune star’s eyes, and he shared it on his own Instagram Stories:

It feels like this scenario has been discussed before. As BossLogic mentioned initially, casting Josh Brolin as Darkseid could lead to some hilarious outcomes due to their striking resemblance to Thanos. It’s worth mentioning that Thanos first appeared on screen three years prior, and Marvel intentionally modeled the Mad Titan after the ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid. However, it’s Thanos who has gained more recognition among the public, thanks to his roles in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”.

Despite no official announcements about Darkseid’s return to the DC Universe, I am eager for his potential inclusion. He has already been portrayed in live-action productions like Smallville and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with hints of more to come had Snyder’s DC story arc been completed. Unfortunately, Ava DuVernay’s New Gods film was cancelled in 2021, which might have featured Darkseid. Although I don’t think Josh Brolin would be a perfect fit for the cosmic villain, I am hopeful that he will get his chance to shine in an upcoming DC movie.

Previously, Brolin expressed last October that the role of Lanterns wasn’t successful for him, but he’s excited about Kyle Chandler portraying Hal Jordan instead. Additionally, Brolin appears open to working with DC again, which is encouraging news. Considering Jonah Hex was a critical and commercial flop, it’s nice to see the actor getting another chance in the comic book movie world.

The initial DCU project, titled Creature Commandos, concludes its first season on Thursday exclusively for Max subscribers. Meanwhile, the premiere of the first DCU movie, Superman, is set for July 11 in theaters. In addition to these, Josh Brolin will appear in movies scheduled for 2025 due to his roles in The Running Man and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The latter film is slated for release on November 7.
