Film director Apoorva Lakhia, who partnered with Amitabh Bachchan on the movie “Ek Ajnabee,” has disclosed that the seasoned actor battles with sleeplessness. During their professional relationship, Apoorva noted that despite extended working hours on set, Bachchan never showed signs of fatigue and consistently exhibited eagerness for post-work activities. Reminiscing about their time together in Bangkok, Lakhia mentioned that Bachchan displayed a strong fascination with the local customs and casually entered a nightclub with an open shirt, leaving him astonished.
During an interview on Friday Talkies, Apoorva shared a story where Amitabh Bachchan requested a tour of Bangkok from him. He remembered feeling apprehensive as he cautioned the actor about Patpong, a notorious area for live performances, explaining that his visit could potentially stir up trouble.
Eventually, they went along with Bachchan’s wish to visit, and he was joined by actors Arjun Rampal, Vikram Chatwal, Perizaad Zorabian, and producer Bunty Walia. Apoorva remembered that on this trip, Bachchan donned a shirt with many buttons left unfastened and paired it with a Thai-style dhoti-like attire.
Apoorva shared an account of how Big B strolled through Patpong, leading them to a venue called Exotic Pu**y, renowned for its live spectacles. He pointed out that Bachchan had never seen such performances previously, and upon entering, the Indian crowd erupted in excitement due to the legendary actor’s presence.
1. Apoorva explained that Bachchan strolled through the location as if it were Juhu, showing no signs of formality. Following the show, Bachchan allegedly responded with only two words—”Incredible.” Additionally, Apoorva mentioned that despite arriving back between 2:30 and 3:00 AM, Bachchan was on set again at exactly 5:30 AM, which is just a short rest of 2.5 hours.
Apoorva fondly recalled the times when Kalki, the 2898 AD film actor, used to organize movie nights for the entire team. He mentioned that this seasoned performer would sometimes rent out a cinema and personally contact Yash Chopra to ask for a screening of Bunty Aur Babli.
As Apoorva shared, Yash Chopra used to distribute the movie’s reel, and everyone would gather to view it together. He went on to say that Bachchan usually set up another film for the next day. He humorously remembered how Bachchan frequently dozed off during these screenings, a habit that had become a common daily event.
