Amy Adams Shares Thoughts on Superman’s New Lois Lane, Rachel Brosnahan

As an avid fan of both the DC Extended Universe and exceptional acting talent, I find myself thoroughly intrigued by the upcoming casting of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman. Amy Adams, who previously brought Lois to life with such grace and panache, has expressed her confidence in Brosnahan’s ability to infuse the character with her unique sensibility and charm.

Amy Adams, who played Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe movies, speaks highly of Rachel Brosnahan, who is taking on the iconic role in James Gunn’s upcoming film. In this new movie, Brosnahan will act alongside David Corenswet. Adams, whose latest work “Nightbitch” has sparked discussions about a potential seventh Academy Award nomination for her, recently shared with Variety that she’s excited to see Brosnahan bring the beloved character to life.

I have a strong affection for her, and I believe she’ll excel in whatever she does. It’s my hope that her unique style, genuine humor, inner strength, and quick-wittedness will shine through the role. I’m eagerly anticipating this opportunity to see her in action.

Initially, Adams played Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” in 2013, and then continued the role in subsequent DC Extended Universe films like “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Justice League” (including its “Snyder Cut”), unexpectedly returning to the franchise. Adams expressed her feelings about this return to the publication, stating that she had always understood the franchise was moving towards a “Justice League” direction and that her theater background taught her that a role is not hers but rather something one takes on and interprets. In other words, she feels the franchise belongs more to its interpretation by others than herself.

Rachel Brosnahan is most famously recognized for her Emmy-winning role as Midge Maisel in the Amazon Prime Video series, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” This show earned her not only an Emmy but also multiple other awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and two Critics’ Choice Awards. The comedy premiered in 2017 and wrapped up with its fifth season in 2023. It tells the story of Midge Maisel, a 50s New York housewife who decides to enter the competitive world of stand-up comedy following her marital split. As Midge Maisel, Brosnahan displayed an impressive portrayal of an intelligent and charming woman, making us eagerly anticipate this talent in her role as Clark Kent’s love interest.

James Gunn’s Superman Sees David Corenswet as the Man of Steel

2023 headlines buzzed about Brosnahan being one of the top contenders for the Lois Lane role, alongside Emma Mackey from Sex Education, Phoebe Dynevor from Bridgerton, and Samara Weaving from Azrael. Brosnahan will share the screen with Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman in this new production. Director Gunn has expressed high praise for Corenswet’s acting, though he faces the challenge of filling the shoes once donned by Henry Cavill, who played the cherished superhero alongside Adams in the DCE, and is greatly admired by fans.

Henry was truly an exceptional individual, reminiscent of Superman. I wish all Supermen success and good fortune, but I believe he stood out. I simply felt the need to express that sentiment. It seems fitting, given who he was. – Adams expressed this.

On July 11, 2025, the new Superman movie will hit theaters. This film, penned by Gunn, is not only the first theatrical release in the DC Universe (DCU), but also marks Gunn’s inaugural project as co-CEO of DC Studios. The star-studded cast includes Brosnahan and Corenswet, along with Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Edi Gatheg as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

As per the official summary, Gunn’s Superman story revolves around the main character balancing his ancestry with his human upbringing. He symbolizes honesty, fairness, and the traditional American values, which some consider outdated in the current world.
