As a longtime John Wick fan who’s been through the high-octane action and intricate plot twists of this franchise, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon seeing Ana de Armas stepping into the spotlight with Ballerina! Having followed her career since her Cuban roots-infused roles, it’s thrilling to see her embody such a fierce, empowered character.
Actress Ana de Armas makes her debut in the John Wick world with the spin-off film titled “Ballerina.” Lionsgate has unveiled the initial trailer for this highly anticipated action-packed drama, set between the occurrences of “John Wick: Chapter 3” and “John Wick: Chapter 4.
This spin-off focuses on the character of Eve Macarro, portrayed by Ana de Armas, who is a female assassin with a background as a Rusk Roman ballerina. In the third John Wick film, her character was initially played by Unity Phelan. In the trailer, we see Eve embarking on a personal quest for revenge, shown by her actions such as slashing someone’s neck, using a hose to douse a flamethrower, and even encountering Baba Yaga himself at the end, confirming Keanu Reeves’ presence in the film. Shay Hatten, the film’s writer, told Collider that Keanu Reeves’ John Wick character is more than just a cameo, with a substantial role. Apart from Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus have also joined the cast for this film.
The movie, titled “Ballerina,” came out not long after the fourth “John Wick” film hit theaters. Len Wiseman is the director, with Kaley Smalley Romo serving as an executive producer. Alongside them, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski (who also helmed the previous four films in the series) are producers. You can check out its trailer above.
