Anakin Skywalker and Mortis Gods Return: Ahsoka Season 2 Will Change the Star Wars Saga Forever!

At Star Wars Celebration 2025, Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni officially announced that the Mortis Gods and the Chosen One will reappear in the second season of Ahsoka. Prior to Celebration, information about Ahsoka’s second season was scarce, but fans had been discussing possible characters for the upcoming season. Among these speculations were the trio of Mortis Gods—the Father, the Son, and the Daughter—with many pointing towards their return after the Ahsoka finale featured statues of them on Peridea. Now, one of the exciting reveals from Star Wars Celebration 2025 is that Filoni has confirmed the return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker and the Mortis Gods.

During the Ahsoka season 2 panel at Star Wars Celebration 2025, ScreenRant was present, and our staff member Molly Brizzell managed to verify that the Mortis Gods will indeed make a comeback in this upcoming season of the series. As shared by Dave Filoni, here’s what we can expect from the Mortis Gods:

The gods from Mortis… that’s something to ponder upon. We’ll find out more about them when season 2 airs. You’ll have a glimpse of many things then, including these mysterious gods. It’s quite complex, but it was an intriguing day when George Lucas introduced this concept. I wasn’t sure where he was heading with it, and I had to work it out myself. Turned out to be a captivating episode. The Son, the Father, and most of the Daughter are all present in this mystery. We’ll see what unfolds as we delve deeper.

Even though it appears these comments hint at the Mortis Gods statues on Peridea, considering that Ahsoka’s Daughter statue was destroyed and only “parts” of it remain, this could be indicating a return of the Mortis Gods in Ahsoka season 2, which carries significant story implications.

What Are The Mortis Gods & How Does The Chosen One Fit Into Them?

The Mortis Gods Were Introduced In The Clone Wars

In “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the Mortis Gods were initially introduced, a fact that was shared during the panel for season 2 of “Ahsoka.” Initially, these deities seemed quite peculiar, much like the controversy surrounding the alterations to the Force in the prequel trilogy, particularly “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.” This introduction marked a significant departure from our understanding of the Force at that time. To put it simply, the Son symbolized the dark side, the Daughter represented the light, and the Father embodied equilibrium.

As a devoted fan, I must say that this intricate plot took me aback. By the end of the arc, all three Mortis Gods were no more, leaving Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Anakin Skywalker with erased memories. This was crucial for Anakin, as it revealed his destiny in stark detail through the Son’s visions. Interestingly, despite their memory loss, the Mortis Gods continue to play a pivotal role in the Chosen One prophecy.

According to the prequels, the Chosen One prophecy points to an individual, thought by the Jedi Council to be Anakin, who would restore balance to the Force. This ties directly into the Mortis Gods as their very essence embodies balance. The Father consistently tried to persuade Anakin to assume his role throughout the Clone Wars arc, although Anakin declined. However, the reappearance of both the Mortis Gods and Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka season 2 could signal a significant, surprising twist to this narrative.

Anakin Skywalker Is Back… Along With The Mortis Gods

It Isn’t Clear What These Roles Will Entail, But Several Hints Are There

It’s not too surprising that Dave Filoni didn’t reveal much about the involvement of the Mortis Gods or Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka season 2. Yet, he did excite fans with a concept trailer for Ahsoka season 2, which included some plot details, despite no filming having started yet. Confirmed details from this trailer include Ahsoka Tano facing off against Fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll, the comeback of Anakin Skywalker, and the significance of the Mortis Gods in the upcoming season.

Although the ending of Ahsoka season 1 leaves room for many storylines, it did hint at what we might expect in the upcoming season. By the end of season 1, Anakin Skywalker was seen watching over Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, who are now stuck on Peridea, as a Force Ghost. This suggests that Anakin’s story will continue in this form, possibly including some surprising developments related to the Mortis Gods for Ahsoka, Baylan, and even Anakin himself.

Are We About To Learn The Real Meaning Of The Chosen One?

This Could Be The Most Significant Anakin Skywalker Story So Far

While Anakin Skywalker’s storyline in the Star Wars franchise has been central since its inception, the Mortis Gods arc in Ahsoka season 2 could potentially be the most significant Anakin Skywalker tale yet. Given that the Mortis Gods perished during The Clone Wars, it’s puzzling how they might resurface in the series. However, this could be possible if the Mortis Gods are being reforged anew. This theory within Star Wars suggests that Anakin, Ahsoka, and Baylan may assume the roles of the new Father, Daughter, and Son.

In this scenario, Ahsoka’s life essence being transferred from the Daughter serves a dual purpose: firstly, to save her, as seen in The Clone Wars; secondly, it significantly impacts the Chosen One prophecy. It is confirmed that Anakin is the Chosen One, but his role in bringing balance, as portrayed at the end of Return of the Jedi, was somewhat challenged in the sequel trilogy due to Palpatine’s return. However, if Anakin were to embody balance as the new Father figure, it would mark the ultimate realization of this prophecy.

This closing chapter of Anakin Skywalker’s tale could be absolutely magnificent, serving as a fitting tribute to his deeds within Star Wars. In essence, it would definitively underscore Anakin’s singular significance in Star Wars lore, bestowing upon him an enduring legacy that symbolizes his role as the guardian of balance. Although this is currently speculative, the rumor at Star Wars Celebration 2025 hinting at Anakin Skywalker and the Mortis Gods’ reappearance in Ahsoka season 2 leaves room for such a possibility to unfold.
