Despite Nintendo confirming the release of its upcoming console (let’s call it what it may), they’ve only offered a hint by announcing a reveal before the end of their current financial year.

Despite gamers eagerly anticipating March 31, 2025, as the unveiling date for the Switch 2, it appears that the console itself remains elusive in our hands. Latest whispers hint at a prolonged wait before we can enjoy a Mario Odyssey sequel on the Switch 2, and now, another piece of disappointing news has surfaced.

According to Toyo Securities analyst, Hideki Yasuda, Nintendo’s next-generation console is expected to release in the first half of next year. Previously, it was anticipated that this release wouldn’t occur during the current fiscal year. This suggests a potential launch window between April and June 2025.

When the Switch 2 debuted in 2017, it was initially priced at around $299.99 or £279.99. Historically, Nintendo tends to keep its hardware and software prices consistent rather than reducing them. The more recent OLED model has a higher price point of $349.99/£309.99, indicating that they’ve introduced a pricier version since then.

According to Tokyo Security analyst Hideki Yasuda’s latest report, it appears that the cost of the Switch 2 might be significantly higher than expected, estimated to be approximately $499 USD. This would translate to roughly £450 for UK consumers, representing a further increase over previously reported prices.

Another concern is that some people in Japan believe the price of Switch 2 might be higher than the current estimate of $499. Regardless of what improvements are inside the device, it’s a significant increase if we’re talking about spending hundreds more. Fortunately, since there’s no official release date yet, we have some time to set aside money for it.

As a longtime Nintendo enthusiast who has been following their releases for decades, I am thrilled to share some exciting news about their next console – the Switch 2! According to Yasuda, Nintendo will remain committed to their promise and unveil the new system this fiscal year itself. However, it’s not just a distant dream anymore; the Switch successor is expected to hit the shelves somewhere between April and June 2025.
