As a dedicated follower of the lives and careers of Bollywood celebrities, I must say that the story of Chunky Panday and his daughter Ananya is truly inspiring. It’s heartbreaking to learn about the struggles that Chunky faced during the 90s, especially since he was a well-known face in the industry at the time. The decision to keep his family away from his hardships shows his deep love and concern for them, despite the sacrifices it meant for his own career.
Ananya Panday, known daughter of longtime actor Chunky Panday, didn’t often accompany her father on film sets like other star kids typically do. Lately, Chunky disclosed a poignant explanation for this, which dates back to the hardships he faced in the 90s. He confessed that during this period, he experienced both emotional and financial struggles and wished to shield his family from these difficulties.
On the We Are Yuvaa YouTube channel, Chunky Panday shared some touching and previously undisclosed stories about his challenging times in the movie industry. During the 90s, he reminisced about a significant career downturn. Previously, he had attributed this to the arrival of new actors, as discussed in an interview.
After appearing in the 1993 movie Aankhen alongside Govinda, he mentioned that his acting opportunities dwindled significantly afterwards. He explained, “The only other film I got was Teesra Kaun, which didn’t do well at all. Consequently, I found myself going to Bangladesh and making films there instead. Fortunately, those were successful, and I spent about four to five years living there.
However, it was a difficult and nerve-wracking period as he persistently sought alternative means of income beyond acting in Bangladeshi films. He launched an events company, handled real estate, and experimented with various methods to keep earning. In his own words, “I set aside my pride and realized I needed to make it through. I didn’t rest, but I found myself financially drained.
In a candid conversation with Ananya, the actor from Housefull revealed that when they got married, he was going through a tough financial period. Fresh from Bangladesh and struggling to establish himself, he chose not to burden his parents financially nor share his exact money troubles with his spouse. He explained, “At the time of our marriage, I was in a slump. I had just come back from Bangladesh and was trying to find work for myself. I never felt the need to call you or my mother to the set about it, and that situation persisted.
In a recent interview with Raj Shamani a few days ago, the actress revealed that living as a “star kid” isn’t as glamorous as people might think. She explained that when she was born, her father, Chunky Panday, was experiencing a challenging period in his career and was frequently at home due to a lack of work. Consequently, she didn’t have the opportunity to see her father’s stardom firsthand, with fans eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of him.
In terms of his professional life, Chunky Panday has recently made appearances in a few scenes for Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives Season 3, where his wife, Bhavana Pandey, is also a cast member alongside Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Maheep Kapoor, Sahini Passi, Seema Sajdeh and others. Previously, he worked on Vijay 69, sharing screen time with Anupam Kher.
