As a gamer who’s seen his fair share of pop culture and its spin-offs, I can confidently say that Cobra Kai has been one of the rare exceptions that exceeded expectations. The show started small on YouTube back in 2018, but it quickly evolved into a powerhouse, rivaling even the original Karate Kid films.
Very minor spoilers for the latest episodes of Cobra Kai lie ahead.
It’s tough to accept that the highly acclaimed Netflix series Cobra Kai, one of the best shows currently streaming, is nearing its end. With Season 6, Part 2 set to air in 2024, only five episodes remain before the final curtain falls. As the thrilling saga races towards a climactic finale, the cast has been introspective. In an exclusive interview with TopMob, we managed to chat with some of the show’s young leading actors, including Mary Mouser, who plays Samantha LaRusso. During our conversation, she shared the piece of advice she wishes she could give herself when the series began.
I had the pleasure of chatting with Mary Mouser and her amazing co-stars Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Jacob Bertrand, and Gianni DeCenzo. When I spoke with Mary, our conversation delved into her journey on the series that initially aired on YouTube in 2018. When asked about what advice she’d give herself before joining the Cobra Kai cast, Mouser playfully suggested she should have started martial arts training earlier. However, she then shared with sincerity about her audition process and how it influenced her approach to the show.
Instead of crying now, I’d rather look back and advise myself to take deeper breaths more often. To be honest, I was extremely anxious when entering that audition, the entire audition process, and even the show itself. This anxiety lingered for several seasons. I took it seriously and felt thrilled about playing Daniel LaRusso’s child. Many people in my life emphasized how crucial this role was, saying things like “Wow, LaRusso?!” So, I believe I carried that pressure for several seasons. However, I grew more comfortable every day, and now it feels as cozy as a warm blanket and a captivating book to be Samantha. If only I could go back and tell myself to relax and appreciate each moment, knowing it would eventually feel this way.
It’s clear why the Fosters alum might have felt apprehensive when joining the project. After all, she was stepping into a franchise deeply rooted in pop culture, and moreover, she would be playing a significant part on the action dramedy series. Many people who’ve watched all the Karate Kid movies view them fondly, and I imagine I would feel the same if I were the actress. However, she managed to find her footing, which is a heartening thought she could pass on to her younger self.
More on Cobra Kai

Discussing the possibility of a final showdown between characters Daniel and Johnny in the upcoming season 6 of Cobra Kai, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka express differing opinions.
Through various challenges such as family conflicts, romantic troubles, bullying, and karate-related events, Mary Mouser’s portrayal of Samantha LaRusso has been quite intriguing. Over the course of the show, Sam has evolved from a pampered teenager from Encino Hills to a resolute and powerful young woman who stands firmly in her convictions. Although Mary Mouser’s experience on the series hasn’t always been flawless (she once mentioned to TopMob that a disadvantage of playing Sam is encountering less-than-favorable comments because some viewers perceive the LaRussos as the main antagonists), it appears she’s grateful for the journey she’s been on.
As we move forward in Season 6’s second part, Sam, her friends, teachers Daniel LaRusso, and Johnny Lawrence are left pondering their next steps. In the international Sekai Taikai tournament during this season, Miyagi-Do Karate squared off against formidable opponents like Cobra Kai and the powerful Iron Dragons. The tournament’s climax was nothing short of explosive, culminating in a heart-wrenching finale that left me utterly speechless due to an immense tragedy that unfolded.
After the recent developments, I’m eager to understand how Samantha and those around her will navigate through this situation. The final five episodes can’t arrive fast enough, and I’m excited to see how the show concludes. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to listening to Mary Mouser and her fellow cast members share their experiences working on this extraordinary series.
