Tony Gilroy, the showrunner for the Disney+ series Andor, has discussed a significant alteration in the narrative approach for Season 2 of the Star Wars show. The second season will employ time jumps, advancing the story by a year every three episodes, to depict Cassian Andor’s transformation into the character seen in the 2016 movie. Originally, the storytelling style wasn’t this rapid-fire, but Gilroy has disclosed that the change was necessitated by “desperation.
Initially, Andor was planned as a five-season series, exploring different years of Cassian’s life. However, Lucasfilm later decided to reduce the number of seasons to three, then ultimately settled on only two seasons, due to the complexity and time-consuming nature of the original storyline while filming the first season. In an interview with SFX magazine (via Games Radar), director Tony Gilroy explained that they found the story too expansive, and it would take a considerable amount of effort for everyone involved in production to maintain the initial plan. As a result, they chose to reorganize and streamline the narrative into two seasons instead.
If you can find a way to make it work, we’re on board.
