Andrea Bocelli on New Doc ‘Because I Believe’ and a Possible Taylor Swift Duet: “Why Not? I’m Ready”

As a devoted fan, I have been captivated by the enchanting melodies and soulful performances of Andrea Bocelli for decades. His latest documentary, “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe”, has not only deepened my appreciation for him as an artist but also offered a rare glimpse into his personal life and background. The film takes us on a journey through his childhood in the picturesque Tuscan village of La Sterza, shedding light on the humble beginnings of this extraordinary talent.

Andrea Bocelli, the cherished tenor from Italy, has graced many stages around the globe. Now, his admirers can delve deeper into his past, gain a peek behind the curtains, and discover intriguing aspects of his personal life through Cosima Spender’s documentary titled Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe. This film made its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Saturday.

For over three decades now, I’ve been gracing stages with a unique blend of pop, rock, and opera that has resonated deeply within millions worldwide. Last year’s breathtaking concert at the Baths of Caracalla served as the foundation for ‘Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe’, offering a personal glimpse into my life and music as one of today’s most celebrated vocalists.

In the documentary titled “Palio, The Importance of Being Elegant,” Spender doesn’t just guide us through interviews and old performance recordings, but also invites us into casual get-togethers with Bocelli’s friends and relatives.

On Saturday in Toronto, Andrea Bocelli attended the premiere and later spent time greeting a few journalists from the media after the event.

Overwhelmed with a mix of humility and astonishment,” Bocelli shares with THR as he pats his pet, “I hadn’t expected my life to become such an intriguing tale.” This is in reference to having a new documentary about him, as well as the 2017 film The Music of Silence, directed by Michael Radford and starring Antonio Banderas, which was based on the novel of the same name and loosely inspired by his childhood experiences.

As a gaming enthusiast, one might find it unexpected that my favorite aspect of delving into Spender’s documentary is his equestrian escapades. “There’s nothing quite like strapping on a saddle and charging through the open fields with my horse,” I reflect. This moment in the countryside has left an indelible mark on me.

Inquired about whether he perceives his music as a means of solace and relief for individuals grappling with wars, disputes, and distressing news, the tenor responded: “Absolutely, music provides comfort. However, I believe that the true remedy to the problems we’ve confronted since history began—issues such as hate, conflict, envy, self-centeredness, and so forth—the primary solution lies in faith.

According to Bocelli, “When humans truly grasp that progress demands unity, and prioritize collaboration and harmony over strife, we’ll find the solution.

The document illustrates the individual handling his rise to fame effortlessly. He admits, “I’ve never been fixated on fame or striving for a specific level of celebrity.” Instead, he shares that his mother often criticized him, saying, “‘You’re not making any progress in life, so nothing will ever come of you.’ However, I have always trusted in my destiny and believed in it. As a result, when fame arrived, I didn’t let it induce anxiety. Instead, I refused to allow it to alter my life or my identity.

His fans and movie viewers shouldn’t anticipate him providing life lessons through his performance in the movie. In fact, he considers himself as not being a great teacher. Instead, he sees himself as a continuous learner, picking up new things every day, making him a good student. He doesn’t claim to have anything to teach or tell anyone. People can draw their own conclusions from the film and take away whatever they find meaningful.

Later on, he considers a valuable piece of advice to share. “Perhaps,” Bocelli muses, “upcoming vocalists might find inspiration in my films, such as understanding how to sing effortlessly instead of straining one’s voice.” This is an aspect they could certainly learn from the movies.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve often pondered if perhaps he might consider sharing some glimpses into his life through a reality series or similar format. But he swiftly and decisively shuts down that idea: “Absolutely not.” He even adds a touch of humor by saying: “There are already countless shows about people’s lives. I don’t believe yours truly needs one.

Is there anyone else the tenor is interested in collaborating with? Could we possibly see a duet between Taylor Swift and Bocelli? So far, he’s mainly communicated in Italian with a translator, but now Bocelli replies in English: “Why not? I’m open to it.

Is there anyone else he would consider working with? In his final thoughts, Bocelli expresses that the world is abundant with stunning vocal talents.
