As a lifelong Bollywood enthusiast and someone who has grown up admiring the iconic duo Salim-Javed, I must say that Angry Young Men is a truly captivating journey through the annals of Indian cinema history. Being privy to such an intimate portrayal of their collaboration, their struggles, and their eventual parting ways was nothing short of enlightening.
Anushka Sharma recently viewed the three-part series titled “Angry Young Men,” delving into the partnership between Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar in their professional journey. So captivated was the actress by this show that she expressed her sincere thoughts about it on her Instagram stories.
In the show, Anushka Sharma, known for her role in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, posted a scene that included renowned Bollywood screenwriter Javed Akhtar. During the clip, Akhtar read a quote by Krishan Chander, originally printed on his debut book of poems. Moved by the author’s words, Anushka Sharma wrote, “Such rich history and insight in this documentary series,” accompanied by a heart emoji.

Previously, filmmaker Hansal Mehta also shared his feelings about the web series. On a platform known as X (previously Twitter), he reminisced about the Angry Young Men show.
He penned in his review, “I enjoyed Angry Young Men for what it is. Nostalgic and intimate almost like an expensive family video for public consumption. Didn’t offer much beyond what we know but to hear the two thespians introspecting on their work and lives is a treasure. Really good collection of clips and a well-edited show. Honestly, I don’t get people who criticise work for what they want it to be than for what it is…”

The series presents renowned Bollywood personalities such as Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, and Amitabh Bachchan, who recount the captivating story of a famed writer-lyricist duo in this documentary series. For those unaware, these two iconic figures of Bollywood collaborated on 24 films, with an impressive 22 of them becoming box office sensations. Regrettably, their partnership ended in 1982, reportedly due to a creative stagnation. However, Salim Khan (Salman’s father) described the separation as amicable, while Javed Akhtar (Farhan and Zoya’s father) expressed on the show that the primary cause of their split was a decline in their creative energy.
