As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the evolution of Indian cinema, I wholeheartedly agree with Salman Khan’s sentiments about the changing dynamics of masculinity in today’s generation. Having had the privilege of witnessing the transformation of Indian cinema through the works of iconic writer duo Salim-Javed, it is evident that their contributions not only revolutionized the industry but also redefined what it means to be a man.
Salman Khan expresses that modern men seem to be moving away from traditional masculinity, and he believes his father, screenwriter Salim Khan, and his longtime collaborator Javed Akhtar embody what it truly means to be a man. He shared these thoughts during the launch of an upcoming docu-series titled ‘Angry Young Men,’ which focuses on the journey of the writer duo Salim-Javed.
At a trailer event held on Tuesday, Salman Khan publicly acknowledged the significant role of Salim-Javed in transforming Indian cinema during the 1970s. He explained that this screenwriting duo drew upon their personal experiences and insights to craft their screenplays.
“Many authors draw upon their personal experiences, insights gained from those around them, observations of the world, lessons imparted by their parents, and the development of their children when they write. These elements are then woven into their work on screen, according to Salman.”
In simpler terms, he said that the other writers draw their inspiration from the movies and then return it to the world of films.
At the gathering, Salman offered his perspective on modern-day males: “It seems as though God creates men, but these days, many men no longer wish to identify as men… There are plenty of men being created. However, this generation appears to prefer not to embrace their masculinity.”
The actor from “The Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan” made a statement that compares Salim-Javed to individuals who continue to embody masculinity.
Movie editor Namrata Rao, known for her work on films such as Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Ishqiya, Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Kahaani, and now Angry Young Men, has taken charge of this production. The film showcases conversations with notable stars like Salman, Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan, who collectively honor the enduring legacy of Salim-Javed in the world of cinema.
Salim-Khan and Javed Akhtar collaborated on numerous films such as Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Trishul, Kala Patthar, among others during the 1970s. This screenwriting duo played a significant role in Amitabh Bachchan being dubbed as the ‘Angry Young Man’ of that era.
As a connoisseur of all things entertainment, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated docu-series I’ve been working on is set to premiere on August 20, 2024. This captivating production is a joint effort by Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and my very own Tiger Baby Films. Get ready to stream it exclusively on Amazon Prime Video!
