Anna Kendrick Picks the Wrong Guy in Trailer for Netflix’s True-Crime Thriller ‘Woman of the Hour’

As a seasoned gamer who has dabbled in both virtual and real-life gaming scenarios, I must admit that the trailer for Netflix’s Woman of the Hour has piqued my interest. The premise of a crime thriller based on a true story, with Anna Kendrick at the helm as both actress and director, is nothing short of intriguing.

In the trailer for Netflix’s “Woman of the Hour,” Anna Kendrick expresses that she doesn’t have the sensation of being a victor following her guest spot on a game show.

Kendrick steps into her first role as a feature director with the gripping fact-based crime thriller, which premieres on a streaming service on October 18th. Daniel Zovatto, Nicolette Robinson, and Tony Hale join the cast for this film that’s inspired by the true tale of Rodney Alcala, portrayed by Zovatto.

Pivotal Moment in Time focuses on Cheryl Bradshaw (Kendrick), unaware that her chosen suitor, Zovatto, from The Dating Game in 1978, conceals a shady criminal history.

Kendrick took charge of the movie based on a screenplay by Ian McDonald, which made it onto the prestigious Black List in 2017. The production was handled by Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.

2023 saw the debut of “Woman of the Hour” at the Toronto International Film Festival. In her critique for The Hollywood Reporter, Lovia Gyarkye expressed that Kendrick expands upon the foundation laid in “Alice, Darling”, and this time, she is not only an actress but also the director of this chilling portrayal of serial killer Rodney Alcala’s participation in a dating game show during his murderous rampage.

She went on to say, “The series ‘Woman of the Hour‘, which debuted at TIFF before being acquired by Netflix, is a bold effort to challenge typical true-crime genre conventions by providing a platform for the survivors and victims who were impacted by Alcala’s spree.
