The strategic moves they are making in Spain, Brazil, the UK, France, and the Nordics are not just ambitious, but also daring – a recipe for creating truly special stories that resonate with audiences worldwide.
Leading figures from Anonymous Content, known for productions such as “True Detective,” Alfonso Cuarón’s “Disclaimer,” “Spotlight,” and “The Revenant,” along with their Spanish and Brazilian subsidiaries, appeared on stage in Madrid during the commencement of day 2 at the fourth annual Iberseries & Platino Industria event.
In a panel discussion led by the author, Jacobo Aparicio, international director at Anonymous Content in Los Angeles, Barbara Teixeira, CEO of Anonymous Content Brazil (a joint venture with RT Features and backed financially by Hollywood talent agency CAA), and Beatriz Campos, managing director of Anonymous Content Spain (a joint venture with Morena Films) shared their strategic plans and development ideas.
Camps mentioned that as she’s still relatively new to her position, there are no formal titles to announce yet. However, she hinted at some exciting projects in the pipeline, stating, “We currently have two films and four TV series in the works, all of them in Spanish except for one international project in English.” She added that they decided to join this project because they were captivated by its idea. “We understand that an English-language production might be a bit challenging,” she said, “but the story is set during Spain’s Civil War and has a unique, organic international perspective. Given its setting and the tale it tells, it seems appropriate to collaborate with our American partners on this project.
Simultaneously, Teixeira highlighted two projects from AC Brazil that were previously announced. These include their initial scripted project, a television adaptation of Raphael Montes’ renowned work, “Perfect Days,” and a documentary series focusing on the life of Brazilian soccer legend Sócrates. Both projects are destined for Globoplay, the streaming platform owned by Globo Brazil, the industry titan.
The eight-episode series titled “Perfect Days,” helmed by director Joana Jabace (known for “Precious Pearl”) and penned by Claudia Jouvin (“The Nightshifter”), revolves around Clarice, a lighthearted screenwriter who casually kisses an awkward medical student named Téo to irritate her college boyfriend. However, this playful act spirals into terror when the infatuated Téo abducts Clarice and forces her on a carnival-like journey through Rio de Janeiro. Teixeira referred to it as a “major thriller.
Furthermore, the Sócrates initiative will portray the star as a significant political personality, she mentioned. “It’s a deeply personal narrative, rather than just an athlete’s life story, and Walter Salles is uniquely suited to bring it to life. We are genuinely thrilled about this project,” she added. Notably, Salles’ film I’m Still Here has been chosen as Brazil’s submission for the Best International Feature Oscar.
Aparicio explained that Anonymous Content’s international partnerships, which include collaborations in the UK, France, and the Nordics, are aimed at expanding beyond the U.S. market, captivating a worldwide audience. The local offices are encouraged to be bold, innovative, and even daring in their storytelling, with the ambition to create something extraordinary.
