Watch out world, another Sphere is coming.
Sphere Entertainment, which manages the Sphere venue in Las Vegas, has teamed up with Abu Dhabi‘s Department of Culture and Tourism to reveal that the second Sphere location will be based in the United Arab Emirates’ city of Abu Dhabi.
Further information about the upcoming urban Sphere is yet to be revealed. However, the company has assured us that its location within the city will be strategically significant, and they plan for it to match the grandeur of the 20,000-seater Sphere in Las Vegas.
Significantly, the latest venture, known as Sphere, will employ a franchising system. Abu Dhabi will fund the construction of this project and make franchise payments to Sphere, in exchange for using their designs, technology, intellectual property (IP), and brand. In return, the new Sphere will also pay ongoing fees to Sphere Entertainment for its content, branding, technology, and IP.
The Las Vegas Sphere has been focusing on live events, such as performances by bands like U2 and Phish, and it recently ventured into the sports world for the first time by hosting a live UFC match. Additionally, it boasts two original films: “Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard from Earth” and “V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film,” with more original content being produced by its own Sphere Studios division.
The Globe in Las Vegas is now undeniably a popular tourist destination, as people flock there to capture images of the video projections displayed on its outer layer, often referred to as the “exosphere.
James Dolan, the head of Sphere Entertainment, expressed that the company’s aim for Sphere has long been a worldwide network of venues. He stated today’s announcement is a substantial step towards achieving this ambition. Sphere is revolutionizing live entertainment and expanding the influence of its innovative effects. We are honored to partner with DCT Abu Dhabi in creating Sphere within their city.
