Recently, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya shared memories of creating the song “Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha” for Shah Rukh Khan’s film Main Hoon Na. In addition, he disclosed some unexpected facts about how Anu Malik allegedly took his song “Gori Gori,” a number originally performed by him and KK.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently spoke with Mashable India about the making of the song “Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha” and shared thoughts on working alongside music composer Anu Malik. According to Bhattacharya, there were allegations that Malik had taken his song “Gori Gori” from a movie in which both he and KK originally sang it, claiming that the composition was plagiarized.
He went on to mention that, should the opportunity arise, not only would he perform the songs written by Malik, but he’d also like to act in their music videos.
During their chat, Bhattacharya playfully called Anu Malik “quite eccentric” because whenever Malik composes a song, Bhattacharya wishes he could star in the music video for it. Bhattacharya also mentioned that Malik’s self-assurance about his work can sometimes lead him to declare a song as fantastic, and he wants not only to perform it but also have it filmed with him, labeling him as “quite eccentric.
He also noted that he has become quite self-centered and no longer concerns himself with what others think, as he put it, “I don’t have time for anyone else.” Remembering an instance when the musician replaced his voice with his own in the song of a movie titled ‘Chori Chori Chori Chori’, Bhattacharya reminisced, “Can you believe I sang that in that film?” Then, he mimicked Malik’s deep, rough voice, emphasizing the similarities in their vocal tones.
He also added that they had initially performed the song together, expressing his awe at its quality. However, upon closer inspection, he discovered that another artist, Anu Malik, had taken over their original vocal parts.
I was informed that a scenario reminiscent of what happened with Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha seemed imminent, hinting perhaps at Malik’s desire to perform the song personally and have it visualized featuring him.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya shared that when he worked with Anu Malik before, the composer used to give him a heads up by calling around three to four days ahead of time, letting him know which songs were scheduled for recording and giving him ample time to practice.
In an unexpected turn of events, I found myself summoned to the set to dub a song for Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha. Had I been granted some preparation time, I believe the impact of that song could have been significantly heightened, making it even more memorable and historically significant.
