As a follower and admirer of Anupam Kher’s inspiring journey, his recent revelations about his financial struggles and the humorous incident involving his car theft outside a temple resonate deeply with me. It serves as a stark reminder that even the most successful individuals can face adversity, but it is their resilience and tenacity that truly define them.
Noted Indian actor Anupam Kher has shared stories about the tough economic times he experienced around the year 2000, nearing bankruptcy. He also reminisced about an amusing episode where he visited a temple to pray and found his car had been stolen. When reporting the theft at the police station, officers chuckled because it seemed like a plot from a film.
In a chat on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Anupam Kher spoke about his hardships being compounded when his car was stolen, quite ironically, just outside a temple. He lightheartedly narrated how this incident became a source of amusement for the police officers dealing with the case, even though it was an unfortunate event.
At this difficult period, it transpired that his car was taken outside Mahalakshmi temple. He admitted that he had left the car idling while he went inside for prayer. As he engaged in prayer, an unscrupulous individual made off with his vehicle. Upon reporting the matter to the police, they found it amusing, remarking that it resembled a sequence from a movie.
Anupam Kher’s journey to stardom wasn’t smooth sailing; even though he was already a well-known figure in the film industry by 2003-2004, he faced severe financial struggles during that period. As he put it, “I came very close to bankruptcy in my endeavor to become a TV mogul.
Although he achieved fame in movies like Ram Lakhan, Saaransh and Dil, Anupam Kher confessed that the stresses from his entrepreneurial endeavors almost caused him to lose it all.
Despite his success in making hit movies and a firmly established position, he found himself teetering on the edge of losing both his office and home because of pressing financial issues.
In terms of his career, Anupam Kher recently appeared in The Signature. Currently, he’s preparing for the launch of his highly anticipated film titled Tanvi: The Great. This will mark his second directorial venture.
In 2002, Kher first stepped into the director’s chair for the film Om Jai Jagadish, boasting a stellar cast that included Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahima Chaudhry, Urmila Matondkar, Tara Sharma, and the veteran Waheeda Rehman.
Apart from the current project, it’s been announced that Kher will make an appearance in the YRF production titled “Vijay 69”. This film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 8, 2024.
