Apex Predators blamed for ruining a fan-favourite legend

As a long-time fan of Apex Legends and someone who has spent countless hours navigating the treacherous Outlands, I must say that the recent downfall of Caustic has left me feeling rather disheartened. It’s like watching a beloved species on the brink of extinction in the wild. The community’s collective groan when Caustic was picked for a match has become as common as the sound of grenades exploding across the map.

In essence, being an Apex Predator means only the most robust can survive, and this principle holds true not just for the tales but also for those shaping them.

In different parts of the Outlands, you won’t find deserts or forests like jungles, but instead, cities marked on every map. Yet, regardless of the environment, the same survival principles hold true. If you don’t adjust to your surroundings with your gear, you risk falling behind quickly.

Currently, one of Apex Legends’ favorite animal species is teetering on the brink of extinction due to overfarming by predators, which has driven Caustic into a critically endangered condition.

As E-District came into being, there was much anticipation among many that it could lead to a resurgence for the character known as Caustic, given that Humbert Labs, where he works, is a significant point of interest on the game’s maps.

Despite recent detrimental adjustments, or “nerfs,” Caustic has fallen to the bottom rank among Legends in the game, particularly in terms of popularity, especially in more advanced lobbies.

On Reddit, it was noted that Caustic often ended up being the least selected Legend among top-level players, with only Seer and Ballistic sharing this 1% selection rate.

It’s official; Caustic is now the lowest-picked legend at high-level play. The pros got what they wanted :/

In simpler terms, due to several adjustments like reduced effectiveness and a fresh health meter (visible via his gas), Caustic has lost much of his usefulness, leading many players to believe that experts have deemed him no longer effective in gameplay.

“The experts argue that being stuck in traffic is an annoyance. It seems that moving swiftly like a skirmisher isn’t an inconvenience for the opposition either. Being caught off guard from behind unexpectedly doesn’t appear to be a problem for the opposition,” said one spectator.

A once-powerful character, now scorned by another, commented, “I recall the days when one could ensnare opponents and asphyxiate them mercilessly. Oh, how intriguing he was before they toned him down significantly.

Critics have frequently pointed out that the Legend pool is currently lacking in diversity, primarily because there’s an extremely potent boost to Crypto that dominates the game’s strategy.

“It demonstrates that many legends in the game become less powerful when you consider that three out of the total 26 legends account for an impressive 49.3% pick rate, with Pathfinder, Horizon, and Revenant being the most popular choices.”

Despite Caustic’s historical difficulties with mobility, it seems his role as Apex’s preferred pyromancer may no longer extend to navigating the jungle effectively, given the absence of equipment to facilitate access into strategic areas.
