Apparently Tom Cruise And Brad Pitt Used To Drive Go Karts After Filming Interview With The Vampire (And It Was Great Prep For F1)

There have been persistent internet gossips suggesting tension between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt during the filming of “Interview with the Vampire” in 1993 (released in ’94). However, at Paramount 2025’s panel, an unexpected story was shared by Tom Cruise about their friendly go-kart races while working on this classic movie.

During a discussion about McQuarrie’s ghost work on World War Z, the topic naturally shifted towards Brad Pitt. Interestingly, Cruise referred to him as his “friend.” Similar to Cruise, Pitt has a movie release scheduled for 2025 titled F1, and Cruise was eager to promote this upcoming project. Given his love for tentpole movies, it’s not surprising that this particular film is significant to him because it’s being produced by his Top Gun: Maverick associates, Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer.

Cruise shared his support for the release while also recounting a behind-the-scenes tale from when they were working together, as part of the BTS team.

Brad has a brand-new film titled Formula 1 coming up, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joe Kosinski. I’m really looking forward to catching it this summer; it promises to be fantastic!

During Warner Bros.’ panel earlier this week, we got a glimpse of the initial 10 minutes from F1, and it lived up to expectations. The movie showed Brad Pitt’s character gearing up for a race in a trailer before taking charge on the racetrack with some thrilling maneuvers. His daring moves helped his team catch up during a 24 Hours Daytona race. It was quite a spectacle, complete with the pulse-pounding music of Led Zeppelin.

In actuality, Brad Pitt has the ability to drive on real roads as well. This surprising fact was shared by Tom Cruise while discussing his enthusiasm for watching Formula 1 races this summer. I must admit that I had assumed Kosinksi and Bruckheimer were the causes of his excitement, but it seems Tom Cruise considers Pitt an exceptional driver. This opinion is based on their shared experience of racing go-karts during the filming of ‘Interview with the Vampire’.

It’s fantastic to witness Brad behind the wheel, as he’s exceptionally skilled. I can vouch for his driving abilities since I’ve competed against him. During our time filming Interview with the Vampire, we’d often race Go-Karts. We’d even finish a race and continue racing Go-Karts late into the night.

I’m really enjoying this tale. You hear lots of stories about actors letting off steam during filming, but I never knew Tom Cruise had personal experience about Brad Pitt’s driving skills. It’s even more amusing given that they bonded over this during the time when Pitt was portraying the saddest vampire ever on screen.

Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have only collaborated on a single film, but it’s evident they share some off-screen camaraderie. Notably, Cruise graciously mentioned their shared project despite his history of playfully feuding with Pitt over the prospect of a sequel to that movie. In this instance, George Clooney infamously pranked Cruise by sending him a letter that appeared to be from Pitt.

This image of them go-kart racing is now permanently etched in my mind. What an extraordinary week for films!
