Apple Is Reportedly Doing Away With Annual Product Launches

As a long-time Apple enthusiast who has witnessed numerous product launches and updates, I can’t help but feel a sense of intrigue about this new direction Apple seems to be taking. Historically, the predictable September and October releases have been like a cherished tradition, marking the beginning of a new chapter in my tech life.

Apple will be gradually moving away from its annual product release schedule, Bloomberg reported.

Historically, the company tends to debut its new software at WWDC in June, then showcase hardware products, such as iPhones, iPads, and iMacs, in September and October.

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple’s extensive lineup of hardware products has reached a level where annual updates for every item may no longer be feasible. In addition to their conventional offerings, Apple now produces AirPods and Apple Watches that are available in multiple sizes.

A vast array of options implies that certain products, like the Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone SE, may not require frequent updates, according to Bloomberg.

Over the last two years, Apple has been deviating from its usual release pattern. It initially broke the mold by launching the HomePod in January 2023, then followed up with the unveiling of a 15-inch MacBook Air in June of the same year. Notably, they also introduced new iPad models last May.

Apple is said to be experiencing delays in its release schedule, primarily because of the challenges involved in both enhancing hardware and introducing new software updates for their range of platforms – iOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS, tvOS, and iPadOS. The company often struggles with releasing features that aren’t fully developed when they initially showcase the software, only to introduce those features at a later point according to Bloomberg.

It’s said that Apple might roll out Apple Intelligence gradually over time, with new offerings expected in various phases during the year 2025.

Stay tuned for more news on forthcoming Apple launches.
