Over the past year, Ariana Grande has experienced significant success with the musical “Wicked,” which boasted an impressive opening weekend. The multi-talented performer has been heavily involved in promoting this Broadway-turned-film adaptation, but there’s been much chatter about her potentially portraying Audrey Hepburn in a hypothetical biopic. Grande’s reaction to the idea of starring in a movie based on a real-life Hollywood legend is highly anticipated.
Alongside her “Wicked” family, Grande has become a viral sensation on red carpets at awards shows. At the Golden Globes, amidst stylish fashion statements and rumors about Zendaya’s engagement, the actress/singer alum had a moment that went viral when she was asked if her grandmother was still alive. More recently, while attending the National Board of Review Awards, Grande spoke with Access Hollywood’s TikTok about her vintage-inspired gown reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn. The “Don’t Look Up” actress expressed that she has always admired this style and is heavily influenced by the classic glamour of Old Hollywood stars.
For as long as I can remember, the glamour of Old Hollywood has held a special place in my heart, with Marilyn and Audrey serving as my enduring inspirations. My style preferences have consistently leaned towards the silhouettes of the ’50s and ’60s, as well as retro vintage fashion, even going back to when I was 15 years old. This aesthetic has been a constant source of inspiration for me, almost like a personal vision board, and it’s been delightful to have more platforms to express it.
The 31-year-old has had numerous chances to make her vision board reality with Wicked Press (and even more possibilities for Wicked Part 2, scheduled for release in 2025). In my view, everything she’s worn so far exudes classic Hollywood glamour akin to Monroe and Hepburn. Furthermore, her iconic ponytail is also strongly evocative of mid-century fashion trends.
In a discussion following her work as the Eternal Sunshine artist, she elaborated on her and her stylist Mimi Cuttrell’s preference for vintage styles, with the exception of the current outfit, which is a custom creation from Loewe. When asked about potentially portraying Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming biopic, Ariana Grande’s response was authentic and characteristic, expressing:
“This is truly exciting and aligns perfectly with my style.” (Ariana Grande)
Goodness gracious, why does everyone keep on questioning me about this? It’s downright bizarre! Bizarre, I tell ya. Absolutely bizarre. It’s like a mind-boggling mystery. But here’s the thing – I can’t help but be smitten by it all.
It’s unclear whether Ariana Grande intentionally took inspiration from Audrey Hepburn’s iconic style or if it was a fortunate coincidence that has everyone talking about it. Her response, however, is reminiscent of old Hollywood, as far as I’m concerned. Just recently, the idea popped into my head that she might be emulating Hepburn, and it seems many others have had similar thoughts. The wardrobe she wore during the Ozian press tour certainly adds fuel to this theory; take a look at the full conversation below:

As the discussion continues, I’m increasingly convinced that no one else comes close to the actress who starred in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” This is particularly true when considering Ariana Grande, who not only recognizes and highlights the similarities between the contrasting ‘Glicked’ films, but also regularly sheds tears over a classic Adam Sandler movie. She definitely has the potential to be a serious contender. It will be intriguing to see if this theory gains more attention as time goes on and if it could potentially connect with the upcoming Hepburn biopic project.
It doesn’t matter what Ariana Grande thinks about playing Audrey Hepburn in a biopic; the idea has been suggested. It’s important to remember that her reactions are simply a reflection of herself, and she could indeed be a suitable choice for the role in an Old Hollywood biopic.
Wicked is playing in theaters now and is available on VOD services.
