As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds and witnessed the antics of NPCs (Non-Player Characters), I must say, the real-world shenanigans of the paparazzi during the filming of “Wicked” have taken the cake! It’s like they were playing a stealth game on the highest difficulty level, with me as the unsuspecting player.
Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are reminiscing about the surprising incident when photographers soared over the Wicked film set using hang gliders one day.
Stars portraying Glinda and Fiyero candidly discussed with VMan magazine their experiences dealing with relentless paparazzi who reportedly took extreme measures to release unauthorized photos and clips from the set of the film directed by Jon M. Chu.
“Grande mentioned that it was a special, almost private experience working with Chu, reminiscent of a secretive student project. She described it as intimate and secluded. However, what began as a small, hidden setting quickly transformed into a public spectacle, with the Daily Mail hovering over their set, suggesting Chu could be perfect for playing a pterodactyl in your upcoming movie, Jurassic World 4.”
“Bailey remarked, ‘It was a man suspended on a huge kite, swinging about while dangling from his legs.’ He’s preparing for his role in the upcoming Jurassic World movie alongside Scarlett Johansson. ‘He had a GoPro camera attached to his feet,’ he added.”
Grande confessed that she was “absolutely astonished” by the sight, explaining further, “Firstly, my vision isn’t the best. But secondly, it just didn’t seem possible. It couldn’t have been! I thought to myself, oh, that must be a person on a hang glider.”
Wicked, derived from the well-known Broadway musical, narrates the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a young woman who endures misunderstanding due to her green complexion, as she establishes an unexpected yet powerful bond with Glinda, a fellow student known for her unwavering pursuit of popularity. The first part is scheduled for release in theaters on November 22, 2024, while the second part is slated for debut on November 26, 2025.
When Grande inquired about Bailey’s filming experience for the much-awaited movie, Bridgerton, he responded, “There were parts of it that truly amazed me, and I believe this is due to the passion and dedication of Marc Platt and Jon Chu.”
“Growing up, we both had a deep affection for plays and musicals, and I’ve always found them magical,” he explained. “I assumed that when creating something, the magic might disappear, but instead, we found ourselves immersed in those amazing stage environments.”
