Prepare scenes featuring donning a luxurious red attire and a snow-white beard have left fans puzzled, as the action star transforms into Santa Claus for his forthcoming holiday film. Partnering with Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson in The Man with the Bag, the Amazon MGM Studios production is slated to premiere on Prime Video this December, and the initial glimpse of the movie undoubtedly sets the stage for Schwarzenegger’s comeback to the Christmas film genre after nearly 30 years.
In “The Man with the Bag,” the famous action star makes a rare return to the bustling Christmas market, marking just his second appearance since the 1996 comedy “Jingle All the Way.” This film also marks his first major role since 2019’s “Terminator: Dark Fate.” However, fans accustomed to Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s muscular, stern persona might be taken aback as he transforms into Santa Claus, complete with a thick, white beard and a large, white suit.
An official synopsis for The Man With The Bag was previously released, and reads:
In a pinch, when Santa’s enchanted satchel goes missing, he seeks out Vance, an ex-burglar, from his list of naughty individuals. Accompanied by his own daughter, Santa himself, and a motley crew of unconventional elves, it falls upon Vance to orchestrate the most daring heist ever conceived in order to rescue Christmas.
Off-camera, “The Man with the Bag” will be steered by director Adam Shankman, who has previously worked on shows like “Modern Family” and “Only Murders in the Building”. Although specific details about the film are yet to emerge, it’s anticipated that it will lean more towards action than typical Santa movies.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Ritchson Will Deliver a Perfect Christmas Gift
Action films are consistently in demand, and fans of “Die Hard” would undoubtedly agree – nothing quite compares to blending this genre with a holiday backdrop. Whether Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Santa will deliver some punches or take down bad guys with machine guns remains unclear, but it seems plausible that the movie might resemble Dwayne Johnson’s “Red Notice” more than David Harbour’s intense “Violent Night.
Combining Schwarzenegger and Ritchson promises a rewarding collaboration as they unite iconic old and new action heroes on screen for the first time. Notably, these two stars are currently reigning in the realm of action television, which bodes well for the success of The Man with the Bag upon its release.
For now, Schwarzenegger is set to reappear on Netflix this year, continuing his role as Luke Brunner in the second season of the popular action-comedy series “FUBAR”. In this show, he hides his CIA work from his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro), who also conceals the truth about herself. The story unfolds as they both find themselves working together, leading to a whirlwind of confusion. On the other hand, Ritchson has recently resurfaced on Prime Video for Season 3 of “Reacher”, where he continues to portray Jack Reacher, Lee Child’s character, in another action-packed adventure. This time, Reacher must find a way to defeat his adversary without solely relying on brute force.
