Over time, Helldivers 2 continues to improve as Arrowhead Game Studios consistently adjusts the game’s balance and mechanics.
There’s been a lot of discussion surrounding the armor passive system, as players find it disappointing due to several reasons: either the passives are underwhelming, appear imbalanced, or force them into restrictive armor combinations, disregarding other options.
As a dedicated gamer, I can feel the pulse quicken as I hear whispers of change brewing within Arrowhead Game Studios. Their fearless leader, Johan Pilastedt, has made it crystal clear: Helldivers 2 is in for a massive makeover, specifically focusing on the armor passives. It’s like they’ve heard our cries and are ready to deliver a game that truly resonates with us players. Exciting times ahead!
It was intended for the system to introduce diversity, but many players find certain armor abilities either ineffective or unbalanced, leading to some armor sets being overused and reducing the number of unique loadouts you can create. However, Arrowhead is considering a comprehensive redesign rather than just minor adjustments.
As a gamer myself, I’m excited about Pilestedt’s vision for enhancing armor passives. He thinks there’s plenty of potential to take them to the next level without overwhelming us with complexity. The idea is to make these passive abilities more impactful, offering a broader range of playstyles, but without tipping the balance and making any one ability too dominant. This way, we can grow our armor abilities organically over time, rather than starting off with a fixed set from day one.

As an avid enthusiast, I find one of the trickiest aspects lies in striking the perfect balance between customization that truly matters and an easy-to-use interface. I’ve tossed around the concept of revamping the passive abilities, making them more fluid or progressively changing over time. However, it’s essential to note that these thoughts are my own ideas, not yet official changes. What we aim for is to avoid needless complexity while still fostering a richer gaming experience with increased strategy. As Pilestedt put it, “We strive for simplicity and ease of use, but also desire more depth and strategic options.
In the past, Arrowhead Studios has made it a point to take community feedback into account when making changes to gameplay. Their recent efforts have been geared towards fine-tuning the game balance, addressing issues in Galactic War, and hinting at major upgrades that include new vehicles and additional content. Although nothing is set in stone yet, with Helldivers 2 being consistently updated, it’s possible that they might rework the armor passive system.
For the time being, Arrowhead is all about gathering feedback and making changes as needed.
Revising the armor system might lead to a greater array of build options and significantly enhance strategic gameplay fun.
