Arshad Warsi blames social media for kids being influenced by ‘sh*t’: 'I identify myself as a cup, I identify as this, you're consuming sh*t’

As a long-time admirer of Arshad Warsi’s acting prowess and down-to-earth demeanor, his recent insights into the younger generation resonate deeply with my own observations. Being a child of the 80s myself, I remember a time when relationships were simpler, more committed, and less influenced by social media trends.

Arshad Warsi, happily wedded to Maria Goretti, has been vocal about his children and the youth as a whole, pointing a finger at social media as the primary influencer of their character development.

In a chat with Unfiltered hosted by Samdish Bhatia, Arshad Warsi expressed his thoughts on the trend of non-monogamous relationships among the youth. Comparing these relationships to smoking, he labeled them as potentially harmful or toxic.

In the movie Jolly LLB 3, the actor explained his perspective using a conversation he had with his children: “I overheard something from my kids that made me think: ‘We’re not leaving home at the moment. We haven’t made any commitments, but we’re still going out and things are happening. We made commitments two days ago, but not anymore.’ So, what exactly is going on?”

Arshad believes that social media encourages children to try new things impulsively. He explained that some young people feel pressured to go out with friends, only to later decide they don’t need to do so. According to him, life doesn’t have to be lived this way. He also mentioned that many practices passed down through generations, which their parents considered normal, are actually wrong in their opinion.

He clarified that his 19-year-old son, Zeke, was quite active but eventually took up unhealthy eating habits after watching a YouTube series about such foods.

In my years of experiencing and observing various social interactions, I’ve come to observe a peculiar pattern: people tend to be quick in passing judgment without fully understanding the situation at hand. This was evident in a recent encounter I had, where I found myself in a conversation with an individual who seemed to have a preconceived notion about my identity and actions.

The interviewer inquired about any dislikes he had regarding his children; Arshad expressed his concern about them withdrawing socially. “It worries me when they retreat into themselves,” he stated. “This seems to be a characteristic of their generation, something that wasn’t prevalent before. Their world centers around their smartphones. Once they close their door, they seldom emerge for 2-3 days.”

Arshad will be next seen in Jolly LLB 3 alongside Akshay Kumar.
