Arshad Warsi recalls when Jaya Bachchan was unhappy about his 'chaddi-baniyan' airport look; suggested him to 'dress appropriately'

As a lifestyle expert looking back at the rich tapestry of Bollywood, I find myself consistently captivated by the stories of its stars and their journeys. One such tale that stands out is that of Arshad Warsi, an actor who has not only left an indelible mark on our screens but also on the hearts of millions with his charm and versatility.

In 1993, actor Arshad Warsi first appeared on screen as a choreographer in the film “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja” starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. He made his acting debut with the movie “Tere Mere Sapne” in 1996. In contrast to modern-day celebrities who prefer casual clothing for travel, there was an instance when Jaya Bachchan criticized Arshad for his attire and advised him to dress more appropriately.

In a recent chat on UNFILTERED with Samdish, Arshad Warsi shared a humorous story about getting fashion advice from Jaya Bachchan regarding his airport attire during his early days in Bollywood. Arshad joked that he had once casually dressed for a trip to Hyderabad and later received a suggestion from Jaya to “dress more formally”.

Arshad was making his debut film, Tere Mere Sapne, when the accident took place. The actor from Welcome To The Jungle reminisced about being a fresh face in Bollywood, having originated from a different realm.

The Golmaal actor shared that we traveled to Hyderabad for filming and during the flight, I was wearing a simple Indian outfit of ‘chaddi’ and ‘baniyan’. Interestingly, in the past, we used to wear similar clothes as we were dancers.

In another recollection, Arshad Warsi shared that Jaya Bachchan seemed displeased upon hearing the news and communicated this through a message to his crew. He mentioned that she advised, “Kindly ask Mr Warsi to ensure proper attire during his travels.”

In terms of his professional career, Arshad Warsi has appeared in films such as Hero Hindustani, Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Seher, Hulchul, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya?, Ishiqya, Salaam Namaste, Total Dhamaal, Golmaal, among others.

Known primarily for portraying the character Sarkeshwar, better known as Circuit, in the film Munna Bhai MBBS starring Sanjay Dutt and Gracy Singh, he has also gained recognition for his comedic roles within the Golmaal series.

In the upcoming movie “Welcome To The Jungle,” Arshad will make an appearance. This is the third film in the Welcome series. A notable group of actors, including Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty, are part of the star-studded cast in this production.

Additionally, he owns Jolly LLB 3, which is the third installment of the Jolly LLB franchise. This movie features prominent performances by Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Saurabh Shukla.
