Art and Breakdancing Collide in Taku Obata's 'B BOY SEIDOU'

As a long-time admirer of both art and dance, particularly the dynamic world of breakdancing, I find Taku Obata’s latest creation, B BOY SEIDOU, nothing short of breathtaking. The fusion of his two passions, skillfully captured in this weighty bronze sculpture, is a testament to the power of perseverance and the human body as an instrument for movement.

Taku Obata, a talented Japanese street artist and dancer specializing in breakdance, collaborated with the creative team at Avant Arte in London on a fresh, sculptural project named “B BOY REBIRTH“.

Obata’s newest creation encapsulates his two lifelong passions into a substantial bronze sculpture, showcasing a breaker in the midst of dance, adorned with an oversized hat and gazing intently at the observer, with limbs extended. This artwork, similar to Obata’s dual professions, primarily revolves around the human body as a means for expression through movement. The artist initially combined these realms several decades back, expressing that he felt there was “no one else in the world inspired to sculpt a B-Boy figure,” leading him to “expand my horizons by choosing carving over the modeling I am accustomed to.

In the artwork titled “B BOY SEIDOU“, Obata took his traditionally crafted wooden statues and transformed them into bronze pieces, giving them a smooth, dark finish. For those interested in owning this piece, “B BOY SEIDOU” is approximately 10.6 inches long, 8.2 inches wide, and 7.8 inches high. It includes an authenticity certificate. This limited edition sculpture (only 25 pieces were made) can be purchased through a raffle, with the drawing closing on Tuesday, October 1 at 9am ET for $6,815 USD.
