As a globetrotting enthusiast with a soft spot for wildlife conservation, this Artisans de Genève masterpiece titled “AFRIKA” truly resonates with my spirit. The name itself evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminding me of my unforgettable journey to the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary, where I had the privilege of witnessing the majestic rhinos up close.
Artisans de Genève unveils their latest custom creation, named “AFRIKA.” This watch is an innovative reinterpretation of the Rolex GMT-Master II 116710, showcasing a daring and exploratory design.
The client’s watch reminds them of the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary and its efforts to safeguard rhinos. Since AFRIKA means homeland or motherland, it’s a fitting name for a watch symbolizing life and liberty. Taking inspiration from this, the design is reimagined with an open-worked movement and a green ceramic globe-style bezel, showcasing 24 cities and their respective timezones.
The rich, earthy shade of green is repeated both on the ring of the chapter and on the dauphine-style hands. Furthermore, hints of golden yellow are incorporated into the intricate dial design, resulting in an elegant color scheme reminiscent of Africa’s untouched landscapes.
