As NCIS: Tony And Ziva Continues Filming Overseas, I Have A Wild Idea For A CBS Crossover

As a die-hard fan of both NCIS and FBI: International, I am beyond excited about the upcoming crossover that seems to be brewing between Tony & Ziva and the Fly Team! With my extensive knowledge of TV show universes and my love for anything Dick Wolf, I can’t help but dream of a mind-boggling crossover event that would connect all these shows in a way that might just collapse the space-time continuum.

As the countdown to the return of major TV network shows in 2024 continues, the NCIS franchise is stirring anticipation with a fascinating streaming project: a Paramount+ spinoff titled “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” featuring Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. No release date has been set for this series, but Weatherly occasionally shares glimpses of filming in Budapest, Hungary, keeping fans excited. And upon viewing one such photo from Weatherly, I’ve thought up a crossover idea that would be quite unconventional – how about having the cast of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” interact with the FBI: International Fly Team?

Hey there! I’ve got an exciting tidbit to share. Remember when we heard in July that the set for NCIS: Tony & Ziva was being built in Budapest? Well, you might recall that FBI: International has been filming in the same city since its debut in 2021. Even after their headquarters met a dramatic explosion, they didn’t move! Now, I can’t predict the plot twists that will bring Tony and Ziva together with the characters from FBI: International, but considering how close they seem to be filming, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw some familiar faces from the NCIS spinoff on CBS this fall. With FBI: International Season 4 premiering ahead of Tony & Ziva, imagine the surprise if one of the NCIS cast members made a guest appearance!

The concept behind “Tony & Ziva” isn’t entirely outlandish, considering it involves these two former NCIS agents and their daughter embarking on a cross-European journey, unraveling a mystery while chasing their ideal happy ending. This kind of case could quite plausibly land with the Fly Team if it weren’t for the fact that it serves as the premise for an entirely separate show. It wasn’t the plot itself that made me chuckle upon conception, but the realization that between “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” and “FBI: International“, they are already entwined with a multitude of other series.

Currently, Tony and Ziva inhabit the same TV world as the original NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaii, NCIS: Sydney, upcoming NCIS: Origins, JAG, and Hawaii Five-0, all airing on CBS. FBI: International fits into Dick Wolf’s sprawling 9-show TV universe in an even more intricate way; it intertwines with FBI and FBI: Most Wanted on CBS, while also being connected to Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med on NBC/Peacock. A crossover between FBI: International and Tony and Ziva would interlink so many TV series that I’d be a bit concerned about CBS causing a disturbance in the universe’s timeline.

Casually speaking, isn’t it intriguing to imagine a collaboration between actors who seem to be geographically close enough for such a project? However, I must admit that I’m not holding my breath about it actually happening. With the upcoming “Tony & Ziva” and “FBI: International” featuring Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer as the new leader of the Fly Team, it appears change is indeed on the horizon. Regrettably, this change might not extend to a title change for Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s series, as even Weatherly himself has mentioned that it seems incongruous.

At the moment, get ready to catch the Season 4 debut of FBI: International on Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. ET, right after FBI and before FBI: Most Wanted, both airing on CBS. Meanwhile, if you’re eagerly awaiting the premiere of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, enjoy re-watching Weatherly and de Pablo’s seasons from NCIS by subscribing to Paramount+ in the meantime.
