Astro Bot Devs Made New Team To Deliver The Ultimate DualSense Experience

As a long-time PlayStation gamer with a deep appreciation for innovative platformers, I can hardly contain my excitement for Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. The adorable robots have always held a special place in my heart, but their latest outing looks set to surpass even the delightful experiences of Astro’s Playroom and its PS5 launch title namesake.

Although Astro Bot initially came across as geared toward families, it appears set to become one of the most notable PS5 exclusives for this year. The Astro Bots, which have been popular for over a decade, gained significant attention following their debut in Astro’s Playroom at the PS5 launch. Now, we can look forward to an entire game dedicated to these endearing robots.

During the latest State of Play presentation, Astro Bot stole the spotlight from Bloodborne’s anticipated costume teaser. This delightful platform game intends to build upon the excitement and nostalgia experienced in Astro’s Playroom by broadening its scope. It’s not just the game world that’s growing.

During an interview with YouTube personality Julien Chièze, Nicolas Doucet, founder and president of Team Asobi, shared some fresh details about their upcoming platformer game. Among these revelations was the creation of a new team inside Team Asobi, dedicated to developing unique features for the PlayStation DualSense controller.

With a compact team of around 3-4 members, named the DualSense 2.0 team, remains dedicated to exploring innovative ways that the PlayStation 5 controller interacts with Astro Bot. The captivating uses of the DualSense’s distinctive features, showcased in 2020’s Astro’s Playroom, have left an impressive mark. It appears that Team Asobi intends to maximize these features for a richer gaming experience.

As a seasoned video game critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of gaming projects that promised the world but failed to deliver when it came down to the actual playing experience. So, when I heard Doucet, the developer behind an upcoming exclusive platformer, assure us of roughly 12-15 hours of story in the main game, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. That seems like a decent length for a platformer, striking a balance between immersion and completability.

Doucet was questioned about a planet inspired by PlayStation in Astro’s Playroom due to the strong sense of nostalgia. Nevertheless, President Doucet cautions against excessive excitement. Nonetheless, we look forward to embarking on Astro Bot’s new journey.

Astro Bot releases on September 6, 2024 for PS5.
